July 12, 20179 yr Come September, once our DirecTV contract is up, we'll be cutting the cord completely. Gonna get a couple antennas to grab local channels and roll with that for a while. Probably end up getting a streaming service once college basketball season starts back up, but still major $ savings. What's nice with the streaming service, you can watch for a couple months and then cancel. Also got an email from ATT, if you have an att phone, you can get the streaming Directv for $10 a month. I may have to give that a try since they are raising my Vue subscription.
July 12, 20179 yr I'm slowly extricating myself. My contract is up in November. I reduced my package to local channels and children's progamming and am back to under 100/mo for both Internet and Direct TV. I have my chrome cast now and am casting Netflix on the regular, and exploring casting network TV. I'm likely to get an antenna here soon and then just call and cancel because it's only 20/mo early termination. I'm now shopping Internet, but likely to just stick with ATY till Google Fiber makes it to my hood. I cancelled my Dtv 10 months early because it was cheaper for me to pay the early termination penalty than to keep paying the monthly bill.

I'm paying almost $90 a month right now and with 2 months left on my contract, seems smarter to just do it now and pay the $40 cancellation fee.

July 26, 20179 yr Just made the call. We are strictly antenna now. Probably add a streaming service once college basketball season kicks off.
July 26, 20179 yr As soon as Fiber gets in my area (October) I'm dropping as well. Will probably get sling TV with the sports package so I can have Reds games and SEC Network.
July 27, 20179 yr So anyone in NKY with antennas have any tips on how to pick up CBS/local 12? We get ABC, NBC, and Fox but can't get 12 for some reason...

You need a better antenna, a different location for your current antenna, or an inline signal booster. Antenna ranges are tricky. Let's say you got a 40 mile antenna. That rating is outdoors unobstructed. Bring your antenna indoors and you are down to about 60%. It is slightly better in your attic vs in your livingroom. A 120 mile antenna mounted in your attic is at best an 80 mile antenna.
