Should Mr Trump Completely Divest ?

Featured Replies

So since he won, it's time to change things? This was never an issue, until he won....

He has done the best he can to somewhat eliminate himself from his business by handing it over to his kids. I'm not naive enough to believe that he won't still be involved in some way or fashion, but what else do you expect him to do? Trump is in a lose/lose situation with some of you and he's not even in office yet. Crazy...

Have you read my posts on this? I said twice that he can't divest it all and I really don't care on that.

1) Probably to some extent, so many told him he couldn't or scoffed at the idea...I think his ego did drive him to push forward and run. He initially had said he thought he'd be out by Oct 2015.

2) I honestly don't think that was part of the equation. If that's all he wanted to do he could have just donated to the Clinton Foundation and got anything he wanted done, when HRC was elected.

That would not have fed #1

I have, sorry if I read too much into the post I quoted and then post #10 in this thread where you mentioned that we have never seen anything like Trump's wealth yet, in terms of a President. By you mentioning it, I assumed you were thinking that things should be handled differently with him.

No problem, but I am not a fan at all of Trump's, I can see where people would think that. :)

I know your not. Typically I shy away from the political forum though, too much hatred in here for me. I'll read it, but typically don't post in here. I'm certainly not a Trump die hard, but at the same time I don't think most give him a chance in the world, even though he hasn't even had a chance to do anything right or wrong yet. But I'll leave it at that and say I must have taken your post that I quoted the wrong way.

Don't say he's done the best he can do by handing it over to his kids.

You don't see either a) a true conflict when it comes to say Deutsch Bank looking for a deal from the US to settle the $14B fine or b)a diminished ability to govern due to the PERCEPTION that he's looking out for himself first instead of the country?

@Clyde I'll be honest some of his business ventures worry me. But the article link goes back to what I said when I first came back. You linked Mother Jones and a lot of what they discuss is semi in the grey. Does Trump have ventures across the world , yes. But it is written by someone who doesn't understand finance. You have continually reached for negative Trump articles, which is your right. I'm just waiting for you to admit it. You now have a problem with conflict of interest , one that hasn't even happened yet. But you didn't when Hillary made a joke of her position.

You have been on a campaign and I bow to you, you have now taken on moutainref and jessejames job.

I honestly don't believe you understand the Deutsch Bank situation by the propaganda you are spreading here. As someone who lives in this world not going to lie you sound ridiculous.

No President in our time has as much capital as DJT, not even close. Trying to compare his wealth to even JFK's is not in the ballpark.

The net worth personally held by JFK at his death was probably not comparable to Trump, but the money JFK and his family stood to inherit at Joe Kennedy's death when converted to 2016 dollars may actually surpass Trumps net worth. Joe Kennedy made a fortune off off of importing Scotch Whiskey (During and after Prohibition) and mergers and acquisitions of Hollywood Studios. Also don't underestimate the money Joe Kennedy made off using the same securities schemes he was appointed by FDR to regulated as the first Chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission.

Educate me.

Does Deutsche Bank owe the US $14B?

Are they trying to settle it?

If it's settled for anything less than $14B could that LOOK like a conflict of interest?

If the Trump administration enforces the $14B will Deutsche survive? If not, what does that do to Mr Trump's loan and property?

Where to begin....

The tired play of "let's discredit the source"....Unless you are telling us that the loans they list are inaccurate the rest is irrelevant to this particular thread. I'm not vouching for their financial expertise. I'm linking them because they listed out the details of his debt. Nothing more than that. Do you dispute the debt they listed? If not, the source is irrelevant to this discussion.

I post negative Trump articles....I haven't posted anything that isn't being discussed by many. They're topical. I have said repeatedly that I hope the country flourishes under President Trump because not only would it be a positive my income will go up. I'm all for his success. We've never had a President like him. He brings much of this on himself. If that offends your senses then go back and keep watching the Bracken County video.

The ol' "What about Hillary..." Come on. She's not President. You and others have spent many a kilobyte on here talking about the Clinton Foundation and the conflicts , if not down right illegalities, that it would portend if she was President. You never mentioned any for Mr Trump. Should I assume your lack of posts on that side mean you are cool with Mr Trump's conflicts? Of course not. Conflicts are conflicts. The fact there is a conflict is not even a story. It's the issue of what those conflicts do in regards to governing if not flat out profiting that are the story .So , please, stop with the "What about HRC" stuff especially when it's directed at me who has repeatedly said she's a terrible candidate.

Lastly, you didn't even respond to the actual point of the thread. You and so intent on "gotcha" that you wasted everyone's time.

You're a smart cat. Show it. Let's talk about how a soon-to-be POTUS , unlike any other POTUS in history, has so much debt that is has the LOOK of a conflict.

Educate me.

Aren't large amounts like this normally negotiated down?

Have those negotiations been on going prior to this election?

What are you thinking will happen, Deutsche Bank will write off his loan if they get a lower payout or threaten to call his loan due if he doesnt? Exactly what un due influence does the bank have over Trump just because his company has a loan there?

Maybe we should be calling for the current administration to wrap this up before leaving office, thus eliminating this issue all together.

The current admin is trying to wrap it up. A special prosecutor was requested so as to remove the look of politics from this in anticipation of it not being settled before Jan 20 but AG Lynch declined.

As to your questions, any "settlement" between the Trump administration and Deutsche will be viewed by some as Trump currying favor - fair or unfair. That's why I listed an "A" and "B" in the potential issues. Even if it's just optics it hurts the President's ability to govern because it gives the impression of him looking out for himself.

It looks like some are calling for the DOJ to appoint a special prosecutor to negotiate this case but AG Lynch has refused.

The Justice Department has rejected calls to appoint a special prosecutor to take over two investigations into alleged wrongdoing by the German bank that has loaned the Trump Organization more than $300 million, ABC News has learned.

“The Department has full confidence in its law enforcement professionals and career attorneys to follow the established Department policies and procedures, which are designed to ensure the integrity of all ongoing investigations,” Assistant Attorney General Peter J. Kadzik wrote in response to a request from Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut).

So the current administration could completely take this off of the incoming President's plate, but they choose not to...playing politics much?

To be honest anything he does will have bad optics to those that "Can't get their head around his election"

AG should appoint a special prosecutor, the fact that she is not shows this entire thing is political. Wanting to create "Bad optics" for the incoming President.
