Remote Starters....Yes or No?

Featured Replies

I was thinking about getting Remote Starters installed on my Wife and Daughter In Laws vehicles for Christmas, but I know next to nothing about them. Both park under a carport at night, so this is mainly so they can go out to a warm car in the morning on the way to work.

Anyone have any thoughts on if they are worth it or not?

What features matter and which ones don't?

What is a decent price (Installed) to pay for these?

Had one on my old car. Once you have one, you'll never want another car without one.

You can can get a simple remoter start that only does that, or you can get a combo with an alarm and add any number of options.

The one downfall is price. You are going to pay upwards of $350-$400 per vehicle, and that is for base level remote starts.

Any more questions, feel free to ask. My company sells these so I can answer most questions about purchasing.

Thanks, I'll probably hit you up after I see what it available locally. I just need basic starter so hopefully price won't kill me on this too bad :lol2:

If you're only wanting a basic remote start, that will be much cheaper.

We have one Install Shop here in town that I know of...they do stereo, alarm, integrated radar detectors, remote starters and all of the stuff you'd expect a place like that to do. I'll be checking with them to see what they have and what's available from them. Their website has no pricing and no selection, just talks about a high end model.

If there's no competition around, it will probably be expensive.

Hopefully not, I'll go out of town (within reason) before I get raped on it.

Have one on my truck. Factory installed. Discovered I had it by accident. I love it, especially with a little one.

How did you find it by accident?

Trying to lock it and hit the button twice :lol2: and it fired right up. I always wondered what that button did.

We park in a garbage so I would never spend the extra money for an aftermarket remote. The Chevy has a factory one and I really like it. It is on the key fob or you can actually start it using an app on the phone.

Not sure how true it is, but I've heard that if it's not a factory installed option, having one put in voids the warranty on anything electrical that can go wrong with the vehicle....

Wife has one on her Malibu, and we love it. Comes in handy during the winter months when she can start her car before leaving her office. Also works well for NKU basketball games as she can start it before we exit the arena.

Possible, probably just depends on the vehicle and the warranty specific to that vehicle. That definitely isn't something that's universal.

It depends on the car. I had one on my Toyota Sequoia and loved it. A few years ago I got a VW Bug and tried to get one installed. The highly recommended installer said that VW's were more complicated and charged me $100.00 more. It never worked. It set off the burglar alarm instead. He only charged me another $100 to take it out. Very bad experience there.

We bought them for each of our children (American made cars) from Best Buy and they have their own installers. Everyone of them worked great.

I vote yes, just be careful of the installer.

Your experience with the VW definitely sounds like an installer issue, not the car. Remote starts are not easy to install, so if someone doesn't know what they are doing, it probably isn't going to work the way it should. I found that out the hard way myself.
