1. Franklin gains little by playing BG. The gap is too wide. FS has had two runner-up teams in the last 6 years, both of which would have been running clocked by BG in those years...so what does getting running clocked do to help those two teams? Nada. They didn't play BG and made it to the Finals. Playing BG would not have allowed them to win either of those Finals. Much as it pains me to say, FS is doing what is best for FS.

 

Agreed. I wish FS could still compete with BG but they simply can't. But there are some teams FS used to play regularly that won't schedule FS now because they feel they can't compete with FS. Maybe things will change someday but county schools won't ever consistently have the talent base that city schools have. Warren East and Allen Co.-Scottsville have had teams in the recent past that started out with long winning streaks, district and region titles, including blowout wins over FS, but their talent levels just aren't the same now. South Warren may be about to fit into that category as well. FS was there in 2012, with a losing record just after being state runner-up. At BG, as well as a few other schools, the well never seems to run dry.

So Sheldon Clark only sits out one year? That does not seem right. I think you would have to sit out a minimum of two years.

Before playoffs there were conferences. One was the SKY Conference. (Southern Kentucky Conference). It was four teams. BG, FS, Russellville, and Glasgow. A pre-season Jamboree was held and the teams rotated opponents except I don't think BG and Glasgow ever played in the Jamboree because they played the first week of the season.

 

Those three games were always on the schedule.

 

BG and Glasgow last played in 1998. At that time BG had won 48 of the 68 games played. Seven of Glasgow's wins were in the 20's.

 

BG and Russellville last played in 1986. For years that was the traditional Thanksgiving morning game. BG only held a 27-18 lead in that series. Some of the later games were quite lopsided and gave a strong indication of where the series was headed.

 

FS and BG played from 1944 through 2010. The series really got competitive in 1951 after the 65-0 beatdown in 1950. Legend has it that FS began preparing for the '51 BG game the Monday after the 1950 game. FS knocked BG out of a WKC championship with a 20-13 upset win.

From 1951 to 1985 FS held a 20-15-1 advantage over the Purples. The series ended in 2010 with BG having an overall advantage of 43-24-1.

 

One reason those three series lasted as long as they did is that there just wasn't anyone else to play.

No, they didn't have to request. The original alignment is still in effect. South Warren and Moore were moved midway because their enrollments grew at a level (greater than 10% increase) that pushed then into a higher class.

It wasn't mandated by the khsaa. I believe they did it due to lack of numbers and to try and regroup so they can field a competitive team.
