I don't know....Tough to accurately put a $$ value on a life, don't ya think?

Not really. Potential earnings seems like a good way to go. Was she going to earn 3.5 million over her lifetime? You can't put $$ on pain and suffering b/c it varies with every person. You can't bankrupt municipalities to pay awards that don't make financial sense.

I'd venture $2M+ is a pretty conservative estimate on potential earnings....$3.5 may be a bit steep, but not by some unseemly amount IMO.

$2m is conservative for future earnings? $80k a year for 25 years. I'm not sure what her career pursuit was, but that's pretty good earnings. Seems pretty high settlement for an incident that wasn't a crime.

$3.5 million is incredibly excessive. Where does the county have money for that? How did they negotiate this figure?

This is why the civil system in the US is a joke when it comes to payouts.

Doesn't insurance cover most of the settlement?

25 years? You think she'd retire at 45??

I'll never understand the future earnings payout in settlements. It's not like all of those earnings were going to go to the family had this young lady lived a full life with gainful employment. Why should any family receive such a large payout?

I should clarify my comments. I am only talking about when a child dies and the family is seeking future earnings; not when a spouse dies and was the bread winner of the family. That, I can understand a little more.

Let's say 40 years then. That's $50,000 a year for 40 years to reach your conservative $2m. Still seems pretty high. Wasn't she working at A fast food restaurant when she was killed. Was she in school?

Yes, but premiums creep higher

Where and when did she try to" murder a cop"? She tried to drive off, and he jumped on the hood of her car. The video is clear to that. Was she wrong to drive off? Yes. Was she trying to murder a cop? Absolutely not!

Can you direct me to the angle of him just jumping on the car? Cause I've seen his video and it doesn't show anything definitive like you're implying

His dash cam does not show him jumping on the hood. That is what witnesses say, and how else would he have been in the position to fire those shots? No way he had time to get in front of her car from what the video does show. That being said, if he was not in front of the car, she was not trying to run him over, therefore not trying to murder him.

So you basically just take upon yourself to declare your opinions as facts, got it.

There is no other explanation that could have happened. That is what supports what I say.

Do you know any of the actual injuries he sustained during this? How or why he ended up where he did is strictly your opinion, unless you're him and I know you aren't...

Show me something that supports he wasn't on the hood, or that he didn't put himself in harm's way.

I'm not debating him being on the hood. I'm calling you out for your assumptions and opinions that you are trying to say are factual.
