November 28, 20169 yr This article alone is the reason I'm against the Death Penalty. I will say there are certain exceptions I would make i.e. Dylan Roof the mass shooter in Charleston. That dude needs to go. So if you have definitive proof like you do with Roof, then I'm ok with it. But obviously most cases are not like that. Trial by Fire - The New Yorker
November 28, 20169 yr Author Warning: the article will take you a while to read, so make sure you have the time beforehand.
November 28, 20169 yr I've always stated I am pro-life except in acts of self defense or fear for ones life.
November 29, 20169 yr Only one word.............WOW!!! Well worth the read........I hope all those who participated in convicting this guy are haunted by nightmares.
November 29, 20169 yr I'm not anti-death penalty, but I also have no problem locking someone up for the rest of their lives and wouldn't be bothered if the death penalty went away.

November 29, 20169 yr Author I'm not anti-death penalty, but I also have no problem locking someone up for the rest of their lives and wouldn't be bothered if the death penalty went away. In most cases I think locking someone up in solitary, literally never seeing another person for the rest of their lives is worse than death. In some cases some of the crazies look forward to death. Why give them that satisfaction?

November 29, 20169 yr Author If there are exceptions are you really against the death penalty? I'm against it because of cases such as the one laid out in the article. Dylan Roof is an exception but just put him in a penetentiary with other inmates and that is going to take care of itself.
November 30, 20169 yr I am conservative and have always been against the death penalty for two reasons. First, if you execute someone and find out later it is a mistake, nothing can be done to correct the situation. Second, a rich guy has the resources to avoid the death penalty (good attorney) much easier than a poor guy (public defender). While there are people on this planet that if executed, I would get over it pretty quickly (Roof, Manson, etc.), I don't think it is good law to execute anyone.

If a 100 crazed sociopaths have to rot on the floor of a dark cell for the rest of their lives, but 1 person is later acquitted years after conviction it would be worth it. Also those on death row will cost thousands upon thousands of dollars for taxpayers because most death penalty cases are appealed numerous times. It just doesn't seem worth it to me. Dylan Roof deserves to die and I wouldn't lose any sleep over a person like that, but I'm ok with barely keeping him alive and putting him amongst the rest of the population at a prison and he isn't going to last very long.
November 30, 20169 yr Author The risk of executing an innocent is too great. The death penalty needs to go. Completely agree. If there is a .00000001% chance of falsely executing someone it is too much.
