November 25, 20169 yr Democrats Struggle to Regroup After Loss - WSJ From the article: Just weeks after Republicans’ election drubbing in 2012, their party launched a systematic self-examination that produced an “autopsy” report on their political failings. Now, after suffering an even bigger set of political losses that put control of Congress and the White House in Republican hands, Democrats are taking a different approach. In the absence of a galvanizing party leader or a consensus about what the Democratic Party should do in the wake of the 2016 election, there is a proliferation of power centers offering different diagnoses and solutions for the future. The Democratic National Committee’s interim chairwoman, Donna Brazile, Tuesday announced that a “new advisory group” would be named to study the 2016 results. Liberal donors are convening to plot the course ahead at a retreat in Florida in January. Progressive activists are angling to seize control of the DNC chairmanship. Moderate Democrats are trying to stage a coup in House leadership. Others are looking farther into the future, to gird for the next round of congressional redistricting. Clinton’s loss is one more nail in the coffin of center-left politics in the West - The Washington Post From the article: PARIS — When Donald Trump shocked the world with an upset victory in the U.S. presidential election this month, much of Europe was aghast. But in at least one critical sense, the result couldn’t have been more European: Across the continent, parties of the center-left that have dominated politics for decades — and that have given Europe its reputation for generous social welfare systems — now find themselves beaten, divided and directionless. Hillary Clinton and the Democrats are just the latest members of a beleaguered club.
November 25, 20169 yr I can't imagine many democrats will be upset with this. It's clear the party needs to evaluate itself and its direction. Ironically this election could strengthen a viable third party which IMO is desparately needed.
November 25, 20169 yr If you think about it the party was shifting anyway: Obama, Reid, and with the loss HRC out. Time for new blood. Easy with the dirt @Jesse James. Remember we had the Repubs covered up in the Spring.
November 25, 20169 yr Author By the next election PP92 the third party might be the second party if the D's continue the route they are on. I might even get on board.
November 25, 20169 yr Author If you think about it the party was shifting anyway: Obama, Reid, and with the loss HRC out. Time for new blood. Easy with the dirt @Jesse James. Remember we had the Repubs covered up in the Spring. Time for a new way of thinking that will require new blood and a new brain Hellcats. Run Bernie the socialist.Think about that Hellcats and yet you D's talk about Putin. :lol2: A freaking socialist.
November 25, 20169 yr Time for a new way of thinking that will require new blood and a new brain Hellcats. Run Bernie the socialist.Think about that Hellcats and yet you D's talk about Putin. :lol2: A freaking socialist. I don't see Bernie running. He will be 74, and I see the Dems going young. Don't gloat too much. I expect the coalition to be more motivated after the Trump presidency.
November 25, 20169 yr Author I don't see Bernie running. He will be 74, and I see the Dems going young. Don't gloat too much. I expect the coalition to be more motivated after the Trump presidency. Not only the Trump presidency, but the Senate and Congress. Gonna be a long few years. ESPECIALLY on the Supreme Court which is the biggest issue for me.
November 25, 20169 yr It is all about how the next 4 years go. People are always fed up with the government and they always want change. The Republicans are the government now. If things are not going well, the people will want change and the change will be the Dems. Trump sold himself as the agent of change and that is why people voted for him. Same with Bernie in the primaries. All the Dems need to do is find the hot button policies that they can sell to the voters as change. The Dems won the presidential vote by almost 2 million. It isn't like they don't have any appeal to voters.
November 25, 20169 yr Not only the Trump presidency, but the Senate and Congress. Gonna be a long few years. ESPECIALLY on the Supreme Court which is the biggest issue for me. JJ, this is the govt. You may find yourself just as disappointed as I will be.
November 25, 20169 yr Author JJ, this is the govt. You may find yourself just as disappointed as I will be. If its business as usual I will be on the train with you. Trust me I am watching.
November 25, 20169 yr We shall return, Jesse!!! Keep hope alive! :smug: (I just couldn't help myself)
November 25, 20169 yr JJ, this is the govt. You may find yourself just as disappointed as I will be. Felt that way for the last 8+ years. It's going to be interesting.
November 25, 20169 yr The same things were said about the GOP in 2008. That the party was dying and would never recover. Fast forward 8 years and the GOP is in the white house , controls both the house and Senate. They also have a majority of state legislatures to go along with a majority of governor's. Its always silly to predict the death of a party. It is time to regroup and rebrand. The fact is the Democrats have ran on idenity politics and dividing people into groups. It works on the coasts , it does not work in a majority of states. New leadership is needed.
