I hate ads and ignore them the vast majority of the time. That's not to say ads have never influenced me, but much less often than you might think.

Ads create awareness. You may hate ads, but every ad you see makes an impression...some good, some bad. Those impressions do factor into your buying decisions...both negatively and positively. Unless you live in a cave on a deserted island, ads influence you.

You aren't ignoring them unless you are closing your eyes. Branding happens even without you being conscious of it happening. Some think "ads" are only good if they lead to an immediate sale. That can be true , say, in a "BOGO sale this weekend" or "$9.99 oil change through end of the month." You may say it didn't work because you didn't complete a transaction. That's only partially true. The longer-term part of advertising is less recognizable in 90% of the cases. When you decide to buy something the places you look to buy usually are a result of advertising having an impact.
November 20, 20169 yr If I based my purchasing decisions on advertising, I would have been a longtime AllState customer. Those Mayhem ads are great.
