President Obama's Retirement

Featured Replies

In retirement will he follow the path of W and just pretty much stay out of politics and not comment on it or President Trump.

or

Will he be more active, promoting an agenda of some sort and interjecting himself into politics as much as possible.

or

Will he take up a singular cause (like Habitat for Humanity for Carter) and focus on that cause going forward.

or

Something else completely different.

What will his retirement look like?

I expect him to be more active. Gotta remember President Obama is only 55. President Bush was in his mid-60s I believe when left office.

Agreed. He was also a law professor, which seems to me to be a little more likely to lead to him being outspoken about his thoughts and opinions on the socio-politial world following his presidency.

How about this for a big turn of events? Trump nominates President Obama to the SCOTUS. :D

He's suggested in previous discussions on the subject that he wants to spend his time working with state democratic parties to take back statehouses that have been lost in recent years. Have to think that the Democrats would love to have his help in breaking up the two-house Republican majorities in places like Wisconsin or Pennsylvania or getting complete control in split states like New York, New Mexico or Colorado.

Obama thinks too highly of himself and his opinions to keep them to himself. He will be front and center, pushing others out of the way whenever he sees a camera and microphone.

We all think highly of our opinions. If we didn't, why would we bother having them?

But we are not all as in love with hearing our own voice as he obviously is. I think very highly of this opinion, by the way.

While I respect your opinion, I'm not buyin' what you're sellin'.

Well, if one of us remembers this thread a year from now, let's revisit it and see who was right. No way Obama will keep his nose out of things and behave with the dignity we have seen from W.

I believe he is buying a place in DC or at least I thought I read that. My guess is he will do the speaker tour making 250K a pop and a professorship at a DC university.

I don't see him intervening much in the stuff going on with Trump. If Booker decides to run for President, I see him guiding his campaign. Then he might take on Trump. Gonna make his $$ first. He is not filthy rich yet. He will be.

He is still a pretty young guy.

Yes he is staying in DC, at least until his daughters are out of school. That's what has been reported.
