November 7, 20169 yr Author :lol2: Okay. If you flipped Ohio State and Michigan in that scenario, you know you'd agree with my assessment. A two loss Ohio State? No way. Or do you mean if Michigan was the team with 1 loss?
November 7, 20169 yr A two loss Ohio State? No way. Or do you mean if Michigan was the team with 1 loss? I'm saying if an undefeated Ohio State team lost to 2 loss Wisconsin in the B1G title game, you'd be leading the charge that they still deserved the playoff spot over Wisconsin.
November 7, 20169 yr Author I'm saying if an undefeated Ohio State team lost to 2 loss Wisconsin in the B1G title game, you'd be leading the charge that they still deserved the playoff spot over Wisconsin. I'm not positive on that. I would obviously love Ohio State to get in, but a two loss Wisconsin who played a close game with Michigan in Ann Arbor and who took Ohio State to overtime the first time they played. That's a decent resume.
November 7, 20169 yr To me it is 8: Alabama Auburn Clemson UofL Ohio State Michigan Wisconsin Washington Mathematically these teams are still in it, but not a realistic chance: Penn State Oklahoma West Virginia Good list. Can we all agree that MI, Clemson, Washington and Bama control their own destiny and stay in the discussion even with another loss? What a boring result that would be. Very little controversy / buzz / discussion. Alabama probably gets in even if they lose out. If their only loss is to Auburn, they get in unless they get blown out. Very unlikely with Bama's defense. With losses early to Clemson and A&M, Auburn has to win out to have any chance. Hard to keep out the SEC champ even with 2 losses. Would be interesting to see 2 loss Auburn v. 1 loss Clemson for the last spot. Committee would lose ALL credibility if they put SEC Champ in over Clemson considering Clemson won head to head and had 1 few loss. Any loss by Clemson would be a non-quality loss considering their remaining schedule and likely opponent in ACC Champ. That said, I still think they get in with 1 loss considering wins over Auburn, UofL and, to a lesser extent, Fla. St. UofL needs to win out and get help. Got A&M eliminated this week. Need 1 team eliminated each week through Champ games to get there. OSU needs to win out but controls their own destiny because if they do, they are in. MI gets in by winning out, only loss at OSU (if they get blown out, it is a closer call) or only loss in B1G Champ. Beat @Iowa & IU and they are likely in. WI - this is a tough call. B1G Champ but 2 losses and a split with whoever they beat in the B1G Champ. They rank above OSU if they beat them in B1G Champ as their 2nd loss (@MI) is better than OSU's 2nd loss (@Penn St.). Only if they pound MI in B1G Champ do they rank above them. Depends on what happens elsewhere if either of those rankings puts them Top 4. WA - I think they need to win out. If they have 1 loss (either @Wash St. or in Pac12), I think they get lost in the "1 loss shuffle." Their best 1 loss argument would be loss before Wash St. game and then beat Wash St. & win Pac12 Champ. I don't see a way any of the 3 below the line even have a mathematical chance, but not worth the effort to engage and analyze.
November 7, 20169 yr Generally these things do not shake out how we think they will. 2-3 games will be lost that we are not anticipating. I think UL's best route is for Clemson to win out, Bama do their thing, BIG Champion, and Washington lose. Very realistic.

If OSU was undefeated and it's only lost was to Wisconsin in the championship game. You would be all for OSU still deserving to get in. Their resume would still be better than Wisconsins 2 lost resume. They would have split with Wisconsin and would have given Michigan their only lost then. You're right the committee usually favors conference champs. However the last 2 years they haven't had a case where the conference champion was the best team or had the best resume. As mentioned Wisconsin probably doesn't win it anyways. However even if they do, they won't get in over a 1 lost Michigan. It simply won't happen. They honestly would have to blow out OSU or Michigan in the championship game for them to even have a shot to get in. So I maintain there only 7 teams left with a realistic chance to make it to the playoffs. For the record I hope neither Michigan or OSU makes it. I like Notre Dame and my team sucks lol, so I hate both teams and would love it if both teams miss it.

They lost when it mattered most. Ohio State and Stanford were 2 of the best 4 teams last year, but neither were afforded the opportunity, nor should they have been.
November 7, 20169 yr You couldn't campaign for OSU over MSU last year because MSU beat OSU and also only had one lost like OSU. It's not like MSU had two losses last year, or else we probably would have seen you lead the campaign to have OSU over MSU last year if MSU had 2 losses before winning the big 10. Also now your saying 2 loss Stanford should have been in the playoffs last year? Over who? Because they barely beat a Notre Dame team you said was overrated? Who was Stanford better than who made it? I hope you say Oklahoma since that was the team we disagreed on the most and going into the playoffs you were even saying they were probably one of the top 2 teams in the country.

Read my previous post where I said Stanford didn't deserve to be in the playoff but were still one of the 4 best teams. Looking back its easy to say Oklahoma now, but at the time I really thought they were playing better than anyone going into the playoffs, but I was wrong, the Big 12 was just that bad. I couldn't have campaigned for any team other than the 4 that were in the playoffs last year, but that doesn't mean I didn't think Ohio State and Stanford were 2 of the 4 best teams I just didn't have any proof besides my own opinions. MSU was the 3rd best team in the Big 10 East last year (at least to me), they just happened to beat the 2nd best team in an all time fluky way, and the first best in a game where they led for 0 seconds in the game.

They also then beat an Iowa team who you talked up at the time even though they eat one. You fail to see that there is zero comparison this year to last. Last year MSU only had one lost and beat the OSU 1 lost team. So obviously you couldn't argue it. Wisconsin if they won it would have 2 losses and why it would be fair to say a one lost Michigan deserves it more than Wisconsin. Which were pointing out that we believe based off your OSU bias you would say the same if OSU was in Michigan's spot. Your comparison of not arguing for OSU last year is meaningless because MSU didn't have 2 losses. Wisconsin has zero chance of getting in realistically, when looking how things currently set up.

I talked up Iowa? You look at losses, I look at how they played. They more than held their own against Michigan and Ohio State the first time if they knock them off in a rematch in the last game of the season I don't see how you could put Michigan in over them when they either 1) just loss to them or 2) they just loss to Ohio State who Wisconsin just beat. If you were going to argue that the Big 10 would get left out I could understand, but to put Michigan in OVER a conference champ in Wisconsin seems ridiculous to me? But what do I know anyways I'm just some biased Ohio State fan who is completely capable of seeing the other side, right? I'm just typing your next sentence for you because I already know what you're going to say.

I'm just typing your next sentence for you because I already know what you're going to say. Basically were saying if OSU was in Michigan's spot, we all think based on your usual history on topics regarding OSU, you would have a completely different stance on it. You say Wisconsin would deserve it more based off of the one win. When in either scenario they would have also already lost to Michigan too. Both Wisconsin would have similar resumes. If they beat Michian in the championship game. They both have one win on each other, except Michigan also has a win over OSU in that case and one less lost. Meaning they didn't have 2 games like Wisconsin did where they didn't make enough plays to win. Or if Michigan loses to OSU but Wisconsin beats OSU. Yes Michigan lost to OSU but so did Wisconsin the first time, and Michigan still has their win over Wisconsin and one less lost. In college football one lost really hurts a teams chances, 2 losses basically kills a teams chances, and it doesn't matter if it was 2 close losses it was still losses. Wisconsin would not be rewarded for being fortunate enough to be in the opposite division of OSU and Michigan to where they even get a chance to play in the Big 10 championship game. While a team like Michigan could only lose 1 big 10 game all year and get left out. It simply won't happen and not realistic. Wisconsins only chance is to basically blow out whoever they play in the Big 10 championship game to have a chance, or have all these other teams in other Leagues lose multiple games giving the big 10 a chance to get 2 teams in. Either way to answer your original question, it is not realistic.

If Wisconsin wins the Big 10 championship, that means them Michigan and OSU would all have 2 losses and they would make it then.
November 13, 20169 yr Not true. Wisconsin could beat Penn State in B1G Champ and OSU would still only have 1 loss. That would be a whale of choice between a 2 loss Wisconsin team that is the B1G Champ (which the committee supposedly loves) and a 1 loss OSU team that BEAT Wisconsin. I think they'd take OSU and that would be the right decision but would go against their emphasis on conference champions.
November 13, 20169 yr Author Right now it's still at 8 with Penn State jumping in the realistic conversation now. 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Clemson 4. UofL 5. Michigan 6. Washington 7. Wisconsin 8. Penn State
