Demographics

Featured Replies

As the election enters its final week, demographics will be huge. Trump is going to get the largest white vote percent since Ronald Reagan. He will likely get more white votes than any candidate in history. But that is not where the race will be won or lost.

I think Hillary has missed an opportunity in this race. She has not spoken strongly enough to the minority voters - African Americans and Hispanics. I believe she is going to get the lowest percent of black votes of any Democrat in the last 50 years. I don't think her Hispanic support is going to be as strong as it could have been. That is huge. The Hispanic vote has been a difference maker in recent presidential elections. Hillary has focused too much energy attacking Trump and not enough speaking to these two demographics that will determine this election. If Hillary loses, watch the voting numbers in these two demographics - it will be because she did not win enough votes from African Americans and Hispanics.

I saw an article from 538 that said that AA turnout in early voting is way down compared to 2012, but that Hispanic early voter turnout was up. :idunno:

I agree with your premise though.

I'm not sure it's the % of AA or Hispanic votes that should be concerning to her. The concern she should have is those that aren't motivated to vote. Both, and particularly AA, voted in large #s for Obama. It is to be determined if that was a "flash in the pan" to finally vote for someone they could relate to OR if it started a trend where both communities recognized the leverage and importance of such turnout so that they continue to do it and it becomes "muscle memory" for both communities.

3 Keys

#1 swing states

#2 turnout of those demographics

#3 percentage of those demographics voting DEM

How do you know she hasn't spoken enough to blacks and Latinos?

I've always thought the democrats, in elections past, did a better job of micro marketing to each segment. Telling each group what they wanted to hear independently. Republicans typically just preached one message to all. I didn't pick up on that as much this year.

Do you listen to black radio?

Yes. Not a lot but yes.

HRC has hit black radio hard. Today President Obama was on live with Tom Joyner for about 10 minutes imploring black voters to not be complacent.

Black radio is I. Full campaign mode for HRC.

Turnout is a huge concern.

AAs will come out in record numbers for her. I mean she carries hot sauce in her purse.

I am ready to be corrected, but I believe the bolded is incorrect. Romney did better with white voters than Reagan. Reagan got 54 percent and was a landslide winner. Romney got 59 percent and lost. That is indicative of how the demographics work.

Last I heard, Trump was polling worse than what Romney actually got with white voters.

Well done, sir.
