What explains the Republican nominee?
Trump ran a populist campaign, and convinced over 40 percent of Republicans that he was conservative enough. Kasich ran a very poor campaign and attempted to appeal to independents and Democrats without offering mainstream Republicans much at all. Kasich would have made a fine Democratic nominee, IMO - much better than the one that they have. I would not have voted for him, regardless of which party nominated him, but he would have mopped the floor with either Hillary or Trump in the general campaign.

I am not being critical of Kasich. He could have written in Spongebob Squarepants for all I care. My point is that the vote will not even be counted. If your vote will not be counted and tallied, did you really vote?
This is the best reason not to cast a write-in vote, IMO. If I am going to lodge a protest vote, I want to make sure that my vote is counted.

Years ago, I was a fan of Kasich when he teamed with Democrat Tim Penny to help lead the fight against Bill Clinton's budgets that resulted in a balanced budget for which Clinton claimed credit. Kasich, Penny, and Newt Gingrich all deserved as much credit as Clinton.

IMO, Kasich has not aged well and I now view him as a grumpy old man who is better at pointing out problems than solving any of them.

Kasich was the candidate that I was hoping would emerge from the GOP pack, but seemed to be really lacking in the charisma category. I also felt like he should have grown a pair and admit that he could not back Trump. He knew what Trump was all about at that time, and Trump hasn't changed, so he knew then he wouldn't support him and was just not honest enough to say it.

You sound like a Cruz man.

And that's an understatement!!!

You sound like a Cruz man.

The only one of the seventeen GOP hopefuls that was more dishonest and more dangerous than Donald Trump. A scary, scary man!!!

That's not true at all. You have been listening to Donald Trump and Marco Rubio too much. Cruz would have been Hillary's worst nightmare.

Hillary would have beaten Cruz worse than Trump.

Hillary would have beaten Cruz worse than Trump.
It's strange that all the polls said otherwise.

Which polls?

The polls I remember from March when Cruz was relevant had him losing to Bernie and Hillary. He got smashed by both. Rubio and Kasich beat Hillary by 5-6 points yet Republicans still pushed for Trump and Cruz.

Yes, the democrats rigged this thing. :idunno:

The polls never showed that Trump would be a stronger general election candidate than Kasich or Cruz. I believe that the claim that I refuted was that Hillary would have beaten Cruz worse than she will be Trump, assuming that she avoids prosecution until she is elected or collects her pardon from President Obama.

There is no prosecution: nice pivot.

I don't remember any poll that had Cruz having any success. His brand of conservatism would have galvanized Dems more than Trump's racism, misogyny, and xenophobia (sad).

Moot point, but she would have throttled Cruz. If the Republican Party is smart he won't win his next race. He is guilty of helping dismantle the party.

You are entitled to your opinion, but after four years of Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, I believe that an intelligent, honest candidate like Cruz will look very good. Hillary got the opponent that she was praying for in her good friend, Donald Trump.

If only that were the case.
