All State Baseball Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 First off let me say I've not heard anything about the Cougars. Despite what the KHSAA roster says, Morgan County only has 16 players on the team and none of them are freshmen, this is really surprising to say the least. So, are their problems going on at Morgan County to cause kids to quit? Not to tryout? Maybe time for a coaching change? Discuss...
plantmanky Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Have they had a middle school team in recent years?
Pick-six Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Have they had a middle school team in recent years? They had an 8th grade team this year but not a 7th.
ChiefSmoke Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 It is probably just a low cycle of numbers. That happens at many smaller schools.
All the Right Moves Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 From what I have heard it is not a good situation. Kids are wanting something (someone) different. There are players in the system. They just don't play anymore. 2 years ago the 8th grade team had 2 dozen kids alone. Now only 3-4 are still playing as sophomores.

RaiderPride5 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 They had an 8th grade team this year but not a 7th. They had a 7th grade team but due to low numbers they just went to only an 8th grade team.
All the Right Moves Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Why do they want someone different? What has changed? Can't answer that question. Given the schedule they play and the district their in players and coaches alike should be lining up to rack up. I would love to have their schedule and district.
Bball Legend Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Well, I will begin by saying that there is only 16 players currently. And of those 16 or so a couple are playing hurt. There are 0 freshman on the roster, that is correct. The coaches son a Jr has been a QB ever since he was probably 8 years old. He is not the best option for that team at QB. Great kid, but just not athletic enough to be a high school QB. So after 4 games this season and Morgan putting up 10.5 points per game they switched QB to Michael Prater and moved their QB to a WR. Prater is a junior, and I would say without a doubt the best athlete in the school. But he has not played football since his 6th grade year. That's a lot of valuable time missed and it is hard to regain some of those skills. The last 4 games Morgan is averaging 19 points per game. A little better but not enough to be competitive in a very weak district. Prater also broke his collarbone in the first scrimmage game of the year and missed the first 4 games. They have a lineman who weighs 250 and another that weighs 230. The other boys are all under 200 pounds on the line. The center who is 6'2 and 280 is out for the year. With 16 players no way kids are not going to be exhausted because these kids are. They only played 13 players the game against Powell County, and 14 against Knott co central. Their best returning sophomore decided not to play and is focusing on basketball. Plus another 7 kids from the sophomore class. Their best lineman and defensive end from last season transferred to LCA this season. Several seniors and juniors would not come back out and play this year either. Probably another 10 or so. Kids that have been playing football their whole life. I know the answers to the questions asked previously but I would rather you pm if you have any. Don't want to say too much publicly. A lot going on right now with the football program. The 8th grade does have a team, the 7th grade had to use some 6th graders to play this year and only got two games in. So a lot of the 7th graders played up with the 8th grade team. Not 100% sure but I believe the 8th grade is 1-7. Being from Morgan co it is very difficult to watch. No we have never had great teams here in football but as weak as this district is if our players from the previous seasons were playing Morgan would be right in the thick of things in the district.
