h.s.sportsrbest Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Final. Se_Bell, is this score right? I know that Bell Co. was up 14-6 at the half, what happened to BC in the 2nd half?
southeast_bell Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Final. Se_Bell, is this score right? I know that Bell Co. was up 14-6 at the half, what happened to BC in the 2nd half? The score was 20-14 with about 1 minute to go and #31 for HC scored as I was walking out of the stadium (Don't know if they went for 2 or just kicked it). Bell County ran the football on Henry Clay all night long for 3 and 4 yards at a time but turnovers and penalties really hurt Bell tonight. On Bell's first possession they ran the football all the way down to the HC 20 yard line taking about 8 minutes off the clock and turned the ball over.
KY Thorobred Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Is Bell the best team in the mountains this year?
h.s.sportsrbest Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 Is Bell the best team in the mountains this year? I would think, at least now, Rockcastle Co. would have that distinction (are we calling them in the Mountains?).
Brewsky Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I wonder if Bell just got worn down by the two platoon Devils. Good showing Bell!
Log Mountain Boy Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Wow, that was a good ball game, but a dissapointing outcome for the Bobcats. The score doesnt do the game justice at all. Bell lead the whole game, from their 1st TD until 4 40 left in the game. There were so many plays that I felt like could had got Bell County a win. We fumbled twice and had too many penalties. As for Henry Clay, Minnifield put on a show tonight doing everything. Henry Clay adjusted and put Minnifield ad QB and ran draw plays time and time again. It didnt look like Bell was prepared for it. I was wondering if Henry Clay had done this before. Great game, Bell really shot theirselves in the foot and Henry Clay made some great adjustments.
KY Thorobred Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I would think, at least now, Rockcastle Co. would have that distinction (are we calling them in the Mountains?). I guess you can include them, but I wasn't too impressed with them tonight. Although they are very well coached and made the adjustments that they needed to for the win. That #23 can really run the ball. But after seeing how Bell hung with HC, I would think they may be the best in the mountains.
BrewDog Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Well, Pikeville hung with Henry Clay too. South Laurel beat Corbin. North beat Leslie. Johnson Central struggled for awhile with Logan, WV. Belfry didn't exactly destroy a young Lawrence County team... I don't know if there is a best team in the mountains.
DragonNG73 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I was really hoping for an upset for the Bobcats. You can't get better unless you play better teams. Good luck next week Bell Co.
strongopenyon Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Bell County is a young team (only eight seniors) and Dudley Hilton had the blueprint to beat Henry Clay. They came within one play of doing it. Had they converted the fourth down quarterback sneak (fourth and one set up after the center drew Henry Clay offsides by "pumping" the snap on the punt.....not called by the officials), I think Bell County wins the football game.

Did you see the 4th down conversion on the ensuing drive by Henry Clay when the WR took off WAY before the snap directly in front of the referee? That was a bad no call.
JC Alumni 76 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Mountain Stomper must be still eating his crow after guaranting a Bell win last night. Looks like Bell played HC down to the wire which says a lot about the quality of this team. Did the field conditions play into the game last night? Congrats HC on the win and good luck to Bell next week.
TomLandry Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Did the field conditions play into the game last night? The field was wet, but did not get very muddy. "Tire chips" were added last year, and [bell has not been practicing on field this year] improved conditions. It did not rain much until last quarter. Obviously the ball was wet all night, but did not seem to bother QB or running backs. Only one, I believe, fumble by a running back for either team. Very few if any slips by players that affected their play. Bad snap on extra point, and fumbled snap on QB center exchange were the most obvioius plays affected by weather. The bigger factor was officiating. For all those out there (especially the Rockcastle faithful who have not let go of last year's Nelson QB sneak) affected some key plays on both sides. Two for Bell that really hurt was the spot on the ball when Bell drew HC offsides with fourth and five situation. The spot on the ball when they stepped off the penalty left what should have been inches...nearly a yard! Nelson dove forward much like in Rockcastle game.....but Bell did NOT get the call. I don't believe he made it this year...when he clearly DID last year. The spot impacted the end of a key backbreaking drive for HC had Bell scored. The other was the fourth down conversion mentioned earlier, when WR clearly left early. All in all was well played game. Bell County is ahead of last year at this time. Young team will only get better as season goes along.
strongopenyon Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Why does Bell County only have eight seniors? Also, even more startling, they only have six juniors? Does Dudley work those boys that hard to run a bunch of them off? I am amazed they are as good as they are with such little participation in their junior and senior classes.
