oldrambler Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 We will see you guys down here at Raceland in a couple of weeks. Should be a great game. At least I hope so, LCA has owned us the last few years. When you get here, might I suggest the Sausage and Kraut dog from the Ram Grill.......Excellent:lol: :thumb:
Guest Bluto Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 LCA's defense looked good. Even though they lost 8 guys from last year, this year's D seems to be just as good, if not better. The offense, on the other hand, is sporadic. Hayden is very good, hard to bring down; but sometimes the plays called for him are no surprise to the opponents. Blocking seems to be improving each week, and is doing fine. The real wildcard will be the growth and improvement of our sophomore QB, Henzman. He dropped 6-8 shotgun snaps, which is a concentration/confidence issue. His passes are sometimes brilliant, but often in a different time-zone from the receiver. He, too, is improving, but will have to make significant progress in the next 2 weeks if we are to prevail against Raceland.

mercer_titan Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Great win. I think this team will keep getting better. Great shutout!
oldrambler Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 My mouth is already watering! I look forward to meeting you and the other BGP posters on your side. I will certainly try and be there and probably with cvillecat if he is not out of town with a Campbellsville University game. His son who played at Raceland last year signed with and is a freshman with the Tigers this season. I will do my best to be there but health reasons prevent me from making it a lot of times. I am sure we will get with you via pm's leading up to the game to let you know.:thumb: Heck, we may even let you hang with us if you promise to behave if so, that would make one of the three that would.
Guest Bluto Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Other observations: Brandon Dawson (Noseguard) is a LOAD! He's got lower-body strength that won't quit. It usually takes a double-team on him. Hunter Swaim seems to be everywhere (CB/S). Great speed coupled with great awareness. A J Schmitke (CB) is like a twin on the other side. Darrin Pounds (S) is almost as good (his father played safety for UK). I have great confidence in our secondary. The return of Jeremy Barnett (RB) was a pleasant surprise: very fast & good moves. Punt/Kickoff receiving was a disaster.... Most of them were muffed or fumbled. That needs to improve soon. By now, everyone knows we run screen passes. They set up well, but the passes are lobbed so slowly to the receiver (and/or behind him) that the defense has plenty of time to recover. There were a FEW exceptions where the pass was quick and led the receiver perfectly in stride. THOSE plays worked very well.
Guest Bluto Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 What grade and how big is the Hayden kid? Sophomore, with a lot of raw talent. He's listed as 5'11" & 282. He's moving a LOT better this year than last year (his first year ever for playing football). Brandon's dad is All-Pro lineman Dermonti Dawson.
Guest Bluto Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 WOW. What does this say about Mercer Co? That Mercer is a good 4A team that played a decent/good 1A team opening weekend.

My son & the Tigers will be in Florida that week so I will be able to keep my promise to Bluto for the hot cup of coffee. Between the coffee & the kraut dogs he may change his favorite color to Orange!! Nice win for LCA and they will be a tough district game without a doubt.
