2017 ACC Baseball Championships To Be Held At Louisville Slugger

Featured Replies

ACC has moved its 2017 tournament from North Carolina to Louisville. May 23-28.

Bathroom laws mean a big win for Louisville!

Awesome. If the weather is nice, there will be some big crowds for that. Lots of great baseball in the ACC. Should be a heck of tournament.

Nice get for Jurich.

May is the best time of the year in Louisville. Couldn't have picked a better venue. I am biased, of course.

Think UofL will ever add more stands to Jim Patterson? I hated sitting in the outfield grass berm at the last UofL vs UK game I attended.

I would say yes.

When's the last time you were there?

About 2 years ago I think.

They have expanded recently. I'm not sure exactly when. Added more seats to the main concourse, and added standing room at the top of both sides of the bleachers.

Just re-read the headline and realized that this will be at Louisville Slugger and not at Patterson.

Would be an unreal environment and absolutely packed if Louisville made the final. It's a great stadium.

If UofL made the Final it would be nuts for sure.

Love Louisville Slugger Field. Had season tickets there for a few years and really enjoyed it.

Great get for UofL, Jurich and the City of Louisville. Seemed like a great setup in Durham the past 2 years. I'm sure they are concerned that even if the HB2 issue gets cleaned up, the ACC may want to spread this around.

The only questions are whether casual fans in the Ville will attend the games not involving UofL and whether the casual fans of the other ACC teams will get on a plane to go to a baseball tournament that A - you might not know if your team will make until a couple of days before it starts (only top 10 teams make tourney); B - you won't know until a couple of days before it starts when your team will be playing (if you're a top 6 team, this is less of a concern); and C - you don't know how long your team will be playing (7-10 play 2 "play in" games on TUE; 8 remaining teams play pool play (guaranteed 3 games) WED - SAT & 2 pool champs play for automatic berth on SUN).

You'd think Durham is more convenient for most ACC schools. After looking at it, that's not as obvious as you'd expect. NC State, Duke, UNC & Wake are all very close to Durham. For UVa, VaTech and Clemson, it is a reasonable drive. Louisville is only a reasonable drive from ND. Ga Tech is about same driving distance from each. Pitt is an hour closer to Louisville but a long drive either way. BC, FSU & Miami are flights to either place. (Syracuse does not field an ACC baseball team.)

So, for 2 teams, Louisville is better. (UofL & ND)

For 5 teams, it is basically a wash. (Ga Tech, Pitt, BC, FSU & Miami)

For 3 teams, Durham is a bit better. (UVa, Va Tech & Clemson.)

For 4 teams, Durham is way better. (NC State, UNC, Duke & Wake)
