Tiger127 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Lincoln may be to much for the Golden Lions this week. Lincoln's running backs are better than Paris's backs, I think. Lincoln could win big if they play well. If not it could be close. These two teams usually get up for one another. Lincoln 48 Garrard 14:ylsuper:
2KR11 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 LC has three or four quality backs, passing game much improved over last year. Too much for Garrard. LC 34 Garrard 6
TRUE REDHOUND Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 What does Garrad have this year if anything?
mercer_titan Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 What does Garrad have this year if anything? From what I hear Garrard is young. It might take those guys another year to get it going. But, you never know. I think Lincoln is about to get their program going where they want to be headed. They have some good talent and are well coached. Lincoln 35 Garrard 14
SLINK Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I think Lincoln Co. is way better than the Golden Lions. But, this is a rivalry so you never know. I would still take Lincoln Co. comfortably.
ckyfootball Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I am picking this game with my head, my heart, my hands, my feet.......... Lincoln 42 Garrard 0
Mr.Network Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 This game will be the 22nd installment in the series history. Lincoln leads the series 13 games to 8, which goes like this: Year Winner/Score 1974 LC 21-14 1975 GC 14-0 1976 GC 17-14 1977 LC 14-6 1978 GC 22-8 1979 LC 13-0 1980 GC 7-6 1981 LC 17-6 1982 LC 33-6 1983 LC 6-0 1984 LC 27-14 1985 GC 20-7 1986 LC 41-0 1987 LC 36-0 1988 DNP 1989 DNP 1990 DNP 1991 DNP 1992 DNP 1993 DNP 1994 DNP 1995 DNP 1996 DNP 1997 LC 12-9 1998 LC 20-7 1999 GC 14-7 2000 LC 22-12 2001 DNP 2002 DNP 2003 GC 18-7 2004 GC 20-15 2005 LC 35-13 Interestingly, Garrard County has never scored more than 22 points in a game vs. Lincoln and has never won by more than 14 points. There have been 5 shutouts, 4 by LC and 1 by GC. With the exception of 4 games (1982, 1986, 1987 and 2005), they have been fairly close, low scoring affairs. Lincoln County has outscored Garrard County 361 to 219. If the game reflects the series averages, Lincoln County will win 17 to 10.

If three of those games in the 1980s hadn't been such blowouts, there likely would have never been a stop to the series. Garrard had some solid teams that could have competed (note: competed, not necessarily won) with those outstanding Patriot teams of the early 1990s. I think most people in Lancaster would be happy with a 17-10 ballgame. Unfortunately that won't be the case. Garrard is really young and likely will play even younger kids this week. Also, with no kicking game, Garrard would have to have a touchdown, two-point conversion and safety to make it to 10! Call it Lincoln County 34, Garrard County 6.

There have been a few teams that stopped playing because of lopsided games and that is bad in the long run. For instance, Boyle County, Harrodsburg, Mercer County and Garrard County stopped playing Lincoln County in the late 80's/early 90's. Had they continued the series, it would have been pretty even over a span of years. Sometimes it is a short-sighted approach. I think Lincoln County should continue playing Danville and Boyle County despite the short term results. Those two teams have set the bar, locally (and statewide) and competing against them can only make you bette.

Those two teams have set the bar, locally (and statewide) and competing against them can only make you bette. I proposed this same scenario to some Garrard Countians last week. I said we should play a home-and-home with Danville for two years, then Boyle the next two and then Rockcastle the two after that. You never have all three at once, which is really tough, but you do get a good area rivalry on your schedule at least once every season. I'd much rather play one of them in place of either Paris, Frankfort or Grant County this season. Of course, when the schedule was made, all three of those games were possible "Ws," unlike a game with the Ads, Rebels or Rockets!
