lawildcat Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 1. I had no idea that KJ was the mayor of Sacramento. 2. That guy got what was coming to him! :lol2: Kevin Johnson beats man after taking pie to the face: witnesses - NY Daily News Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson hit with pie by protester, ex-NBA All-Star allegedly responds by punching man to a ‘bloody pulp’ After taking a pie to the face, Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson served up some knuckle sandwiches. A protester paid the price for smashing a pie into the face of the point guard-turned-pol Wednesday night when Johnson responded by “repeatedly” punching the man in the face, according to reports out of Sacramento. Johnson, 50, was speaking at the Seeds of HOPE dinner at Sacramento Charter High School when the man came up, pulled the pie from a bag, grabbed Johnson, and shoved it into his face. He also said something to the former Suns guard, which apparently set him off. Crystal Strait, Johnson’s chief of staff, said the mayor defended himself against the man, but she would not give details. The mayor was assaulted. I was standing right there and I’m still pretty shaken up,” Strait said, speaking some three hours after it happened. Eyewitnesses, however, told the East Bay Express that Johnson tackled the man to the ground and landed 5-to-10 punches to the face, leaving the man in a “bloody pulp.” Sacramento police told The Express that “the mayor did strike the suspect after he was assaulted” but said that he only suffered a cut over his eye. Sean Thompson, 32, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a public official, which is a felony, the Sacramento Police Department said in a statement. Johnson said that he was “doing fine” in a tweet and thanked “Sac PD for being there.” Once the scene was cleared, Johnson changed clothes and addressed the audience of about 200, calming nerves by joking about it with Urijah Faber, a UFC fighter who was in attendance. It was unclear what prompted Thompson’s actions or what he said to Johnson to draw such an angry response. Johnson has roughly two months left in his second term as mayor, and his tenure at city hall has been rocky. His final two years in office have been marked by the re-emergence of a decades-old claim of sexual abuse from a woman who was a teenager at the time, when Johnson played for the Suns. The Phoenix Police Department investigated but did not file charges. Johnson has both denied the allegations and denied that they had anything to do with his decision to leave office. The allegations led his harshest critics — the teachers union chief among them — to call for his resignation. Johnson’s signature achievement in office was getting a $500 million arena built for the Kings, keeping the NBA team in Sacramento.
