She enrolled at HHS and she participated in the Summer activities. When school year commenced, she did not participate in team activities until they rule on eligibility. Apparently no ruling yet (paperwork, request, input, etc is apparently complete and pending), not important until Oct 15. (or when competition starts)

Well aware of the rules. What we are referring to is what was posted this summer. What was posted was she must be Cleared. That's why we are mentioning it. Highlands person said she must be cleared or she wouldn't be playing.

I'm sure that person was me. And cleared only means "given the okay to participate because she was enrolled. In the summer, there is nothing to be cleared for officially. There are no official competitions. If you are enrolled, you are clear to participate in non-mandatory workouts or games. By being enrolled, she was cleared to do that. And I said HHS would have not allowed it if she wasn't.

 

Now to the present. Once school starts, all that changes. Now to participate, the transfer must be approved. She has not participated in any of the activities since school has started. She is awaiting the decision.

 

And it's not HHS responsibility to file the papers. That comes from the departing school. And they filed them.

Fair enough on fact of the confusion. But if you go back and read that thread, I say several times that it could change based on what the KHSAA says later. Cleared to play meant that HHS had no reason to believe she wouldn't be eligible and wouldn't have been letting her play if everything wasn't already checked out (to that point in time). Again, the question in that thread that I was addressing was "How is she able to participate" in the summer. She wouldn't have been on the floor with them if they hadn't been told (cleared) that it was okay (At the time).

 

And no, not everyone is cleared to play in the summer in a transfer situation. If she wasn't enrolled at HHS already, HHS would not have allowed her to play. That's what gets some in trouble. Being enrolled is why she was eligible and cleared. That was the question. We all knew then that the khssa has the final ruling and I said that multiple times.

 

As for the paperwork, you just keep saying I'm wrong, but don't tell me how I'm wrong. I can tell you that's the way (in a nutshell and without going into all the details) this was handled between the ADs and the KHSAA for this situation. Who physically submitted the paperwork is semantics. I can't go into details because it's still pending. I know that ND and HHS followed the process along with the khssa. And again, it was submitted a long time ago. And your original question was whether HHS held or didn't send in the paperwork. The answer is no, they didn't hold it.

Yes, there are other seniors. Which ones would you like to discuss?

I saw Highlands play several times last year and I know those seniors (Adler, Coffey, Leigh, & Schultz) will be missed. I think it will be interesting to see who steps up and leads this team rather it will be this years seniors or underclassmen. During June ball 2016, I also saw them play and thought they played well as a team. Not saying they don't have outstanding players but their play (subbing and transition) appeared to be smooth no matter the 5 on the floor.

This team is going to be fun to watch evolve. Some of the departing seniors carried a lot of the leadership role and you're right, who's team will it be this year? It will also be interesting to see how the dynamics play out over the course of the year. Who earns that "top 8" going into tournament time? Regardless if Martin plays, they will be fun to watch. They all play hard and physical. It's a different style than the past couple years. In the past, opposing teams would get physical with the more finesse HHS team. If that's your game plan this year, you might want to go back to the drawing board!

One of the things he's saying you're wrong about is the paperwork. The RECEIVING school initiates the paperwork once the students is enrolled in their school, they then send it to the school the student is coming from, they have areas to fill out, then they send it BACK to the receiving school who has the responsibility to send it to the KHSAA.

Who gives a crap about the paperwork?! It's done. That's all we really need to know.
