Shannon Sharpe Weighs In On Kaepernick

Featured Replies

Both great videos, IMO. First is Shannon Sharpe with Skip. Second Ray Lewis joins and gives his perspective.

Shannon Sharpe has gained a fan in me.

Watched that last week. Thought he did a solid job.

I can't give Water Pistol Pete the view he so desperately craves.

Is there a transcript anywhere?

That was pretty outstanding.

Sharpe mentioned that when he was in high school, that his school had separate Senior Superlatives for white kids and black kids............that is stunning to me. That was in the 80's.

Shannon Sharpe seems like a guy you could have a dialogue with. He started to raise some issues in the first video that are relevant to the protest and symptoms of the causes behind it all. Unless we can identify the causes, we can't find the solution.

It will be an uncomfortable conversation for everyone. I am sure that assumptions that we all hold will be challenged by the facts.

Sharpe's sincerity and willingness to embrace the conversation with white persons is compelling. When he is talking about the white person who offered support to him and his family when he was young is touching and shows that he is not willing to lump all white people together. He is, in fact, able and willing to believe the best about a white person he is in dialogue with. That is so important to making headway in a dialogue.

This is where having friendships with people of diverse ethnicity helps you hear what they are saying and give credence to what they say.

For instance, it is easy to read posts on BGP made by an anonymous man of color like @TheDeuce and dismiss what he says because he's not from my home town and he is a Louisville Cardinal Fan. But if I knew him personally and our families were close, I would have to give his perspective respect and where it challenged mine, I'd have to search for the truth. Assuming, he is a man of good character, which I am.

You know what happens when you assume... :D

But thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.

Glad to see your perspective, it certainly is refreshing with some of the stuff going on here lately.
