coldweatherfan Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 My father in law passed away several years ago. For the most part we just put all of his stuff in storage. We have recently started going through all of the stuff we have in storage to decide what to do with it, and we found this in one of the containers.
coldweatherfan Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 I've looked as much up on the internet as I can about it. I think it's a 1905 service revolver. Don't know if that would be military or law enforcement. I know that the * means that it was factory reconditioned at some point in time.
coldweatherfan Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Anybody know anything about this type of weapon? There's a couple of sites that want you to pay for information, but I thought I would check with my BGP brethren first. I love the diamond grips. I did find one thing that was pretty cool. Apparently S&W has the records for who each of these service revolvers was issued to. I think it was $25 for them to check the archives and send you that information.
John Anthony Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Sure looks like a S&W model of 1905 but I'm no expert. Is it a 5 barrel? Does it have matching serial numbers across the gun or is it only found on one location?
coldweatherfan Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 I only saw the serial # on the butt, but I will look again tonight.
spindoc Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'd take that one to someone with the knowledge to look at it and know immediately what you have CWF.
lawildcat Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Do you have a gunsmith in your area, CWF? If in NKY, take that gun down to Pete Garrett on Monmouth St. in Newport and he will probably be able to tell you all about it.
CBDV Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Handguns - AR15.COM Go to that site, register and post same question or I can for you. Tons of guys on there that are experts.
coldweatherfan Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 There are a few gun shops near by.

First experience was Waiting 2 months for him to repair a gun he never looked at and secondly I picked up a loaded gun that was on display. Thank god I was smart enough to check it.

I knew he was a clown politician but I honestly thought he at least knew what he was doing in his business.
John Anthony Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I only saw the serial # on the butt' date=' but I will look again tonight.[/quote'] Collectors look for two things, all matching serial numbers when it applies, (means all original) and a good bore, preferably a shiny bore. That's what brings top dollar on a gun in good condition like this one. I don't know much about this genre of guns but it looks to be worth $300 on the low all the way up to $600-$700 on the high. Probably somewhere in between is correct. Keep in mind gun shops are as bad as car dealerships when it comes to buying and trading.
