Coaching Cards not honored

Featured Replies

I agree!

There is nothing worse than when a school pulls this one on a coach (especially when they are there to scout). It just makes it a lot easier to get up for that opponent.

I don't think that the KHSAA can do anything about it--because the cards are from the Kentucky Football Coaches Association. (But that would probably mean that the coaches association could do something about it if they wanted).

I understand that the bowls are about making some money (at least part of the theory)--but they don't give out those cards for free. Each school has to pay for them-which makes it even more interesting.

The schools that don't honor the passes always stay in the back of my mind (in a negative manner).

The general coaches cards are from The KHSAA. Then the football coaches association distributes their own cards for their members. The KHSAA could do something but they generally leave it up to the schools to honor the cards.

:fight: I just heard that coaching cards will not be honored at the Ray Corell bowl. I personally think this is a crock. I knew that they were not accepted at some State Tournament events but I thought they they would get you in any regular season contests. Coaches work their tails off for very little pay and one of the benefits is a coaching card. And tonight its not honored. Can the KHSAA mandate that schools honor coaching cards?

Just go to Richmond tonight. Madison Central will let you in. Or give me a call and I will let you have ten dollars. :D

I was under the impression that a coach and one other person can get in on a coaches card. Not 4 or 5 family members. If 50 coaches showed up tonight thats $500. split 4 ways. I do not think missing out on $125.00 is going to sink any program.

It would only hurt Coach Milkshake's program. :D

I am afraid if you give me $10. you wont have enough to pay off your golf debts and you will have to start taking money out of the offering plate again.

I guess I don't understand the concepts of coaches cards. I thought that one had to be a coach and pass a coaches exam in their sport(s) to even qualify for a card.

You do. One person can get into a high school event with a coach and their card.

My dad has one and that's the way his is.

I think to get a coaches card you just have be hired as a coach. ( either head coach or assistant) The school system you work in orders them for each coach.

Don't have to pass an exam, but they are issued to Head Coaches and Assistants, if they/school are willing to pay $10.

What burns me up is that I went to a game last Friday and all of the sudden the game was called a bowl game--thus they would not take my pass. In the paper it was not a bowl game, on the KHSAA website it was not a bowl game, etc. And the announcer did not even have a name for the game. It was just announced as welcome to the bowl game between Team A and your Team B.

The thing is to that usually bowl game tickets are more than the regular season as well. Also, some schools take them during the playoffs and some do not. There is no consistency. Seems to me that the KHSAA could mandate it as part of membership. But if I were the head coach and I found out that at a certain school they did not accept my passes, then when that school came to my place, they would not get to use their passes. It is a two way street.

My wife was an assistant coach for a couple of years; and I never even thought about asking to get into events free when she showed her card. Didn't know it was an option!

You can. Supposed to be one person, only.

One person and the coach. I needed to clarify.
