I said in the frosh N Ky thread that HHS has a nice mix of size and athleticism. The size part is relative to the rest of N Ky not Trinity.

 

Compared to Trinity they were dwarfed. The Rocks have 6 or 7 kids that go 225+. Now some of that weight needs to be transformed as they get older, but they are a group of very big young men.

 

Roberson (spelling??- #32) is a stud. As was mentioned, he has size and speed that can not be taught. Both of the Rocks QB's did a nice job. Wagner, though a lot smaller, played very well during his snaps.

 

For the Birds, Lewin played well until getting hurt. Huddleston with several nice catches including 2 TD's. Not as big a factor on D as I thought he would be and was pulled in the 4th quarter with an injury. Ahlfeld threw some beautiful deep balls for a couple of scores. Mason Schwalbach had a super game. Ran the ball well and had a lot of tackles. He scooped up a fumble and rambled all the way to the 1/2 yard line to set up a Bluebird TD.

 

Game turned when Trinity started doubling Huddleston's routes in the 3rd quarter. Trinity eventually wore the young Birds out.

 

Great game to watch.

#11 Delegrange for HHS had a great game on bot sides of the ball. Several nice catches and on defense, several pass breakups.

After reviewing the film, it was definitely a hard fought game by both sides. We had some opportunities to win it but we really needed to play a close to perfect game to beat a very good and very large Trinity team.

 

I really thought #11 Jack D played great on D and that long bomb he caught over the shoulder was something to see. #4 Mason S played great as well on both sides of the ball. He came up with numerous big plays. #10 Huddleston of course was a beast on offense. He was missed on defense for sure as he got nicked up and had to miss a lot of the 2nd half. Brycen was able to beat his coverages even when they tried to double him. #17 QB Ahlfeld had some first game jitters early on, but settled in to throw some really nice deep balls that you typically don't see at this age and broke off a couple nice runs out of the pocket.

I thought our O and D lines did well and put up a valiant effort with the task they had at hand. I don't see them having that kind of surge from other teams that we'll face from here on out.

Just a great place to watch a game and wish the Highlands kids/fans the best of luck this year.

 

#10 for Trinity better get his butter fingers under control. He was very fortunate the coaches continued to give him the ball. If he didn't turn it over 3-4 times, the game could have been a little different.

 

Agree both QBs did a nice job for the Rocks. You simply can't throw a pick right to a D-Lineman. That one caught me off guard a little bit. Outside of that, I look for both guys to grow throughout the season.

 

Kam Hendrick was solid up front for the Rocks. He opened up some pretty big holes for the RBs. Also had a few solid series at nose guard.

 

Love the WRs, TE had a few nice grabs, #35 on defense and special teams. #32 was solid all day. Hope this group can put together another solid season.

 

Compliments to the Highlands WR catching all of the deep balls. That kid is going to be solid if he continues to work. QB put a few deep balls right on target. Few guys to rally behind for the Bluebirds.

NKY=Highlands/Ryle in 2016. Just my opinion!

 

Highlands plays SK Thursday.

Just realized that I forgot to give some props to the Bluebirds #24, Sawyer Depp. He played well on O and D. Lightning fast, tough, hard running as a running back and played tight coverage on some very good Trinity receivers.

Fantastic game. For the first half, more than anything, Trinity was a little out coached and was the victim of several mistakes (penalties and turnovers). While Highlands has a great group of kids, taking out the self inflicted wounds, the score would have been more lopsided in Trinity's favor.

 

As usual, Trinity was burned by the long ball for most of the game, and Huddleston did a fantastic job of getting past the secondary and wide open for perfectly placed passes. For some reason, the Rocks have never really fared well against the deep ball, and if the opponent QB has a rocket arm they are in trouble.

 

As they seem to do, the second half was more like Trinity Football with adjustments being made, most notable putting #35 (Henderson) man to man on #10 (Huddleston), which shut down that threat. I was most impressed with #35 as OLB and Special Teams as well (BIG hits), and as everyone else has said, the lineman are HUGE. They do need to gain some speed, as the smaller and faster Highlands lineman did some damage.

 

Get the turnovers under control and this should be a great year. Brentwood Academy up next.
