This is true - I heard it from a Manual Freshman Dad. Manual has a tougher road than most with the 6-A classification. They have the YPAS (Youth Performing Arts School) program, and many kids go there JUST for that. Unfortunately for football, those kids are counted in the enrollment even though YPAS is almost an entirely separate entity.

Not that big of a deal, the frosh that want to play will simply play jv. This maybe a good thing as it will cut out a little cost to the school and there should be no effect on the quality of the football programs preformance

The count I received from a Manual staff member was 23 freshmen came out. So the Crimsons simply put them on JV. .

I can't remember the last time Beechwood had that many freshmen (23) on their team and they play freshman ball every year against the 4A-6A schools. A roster of 23 is no reason to cancel a freshman season.

 

New Cath had low freshman numbers a couple years ago and their opponents just let them bring a couple sophomores down to fill the roster so they could play freshman ball.

 

If the 23 player roster is the reason for cancelling the season, it is a mistake, a step back for the program and makes me question the head coach.

That may become what everyone does. Beechwood and New Cath are the only schools smaller than 4A that field freshman teams in N. Ky. However, if you had enough players to field a freshman and a JV, it would be better to field both. More playing time, coaching and experience for the players.
