Bowling Green Fire Department in trouble?

Featured Replies

I'm of the group that I'm not surprised these kinds of "feelings/beliefs" as stated in the complaint are held by some people, BUT, I have a hard time believing all these statements/actions were done as described unless these are just some of the dumbest people on the planet. And who knows, they could be. If these things happened as described, then there's a lot of work the BG fire department and city government need to do and some people should no longer be employed as fire fighters. But as stated above, this in a complaint and just one side of the argument, how much of it is true, all, none or some no one knows right now. It bears watching that's for sure.

I did, but I guess "court document" would have been more appropriate.

Yes, I would be surprised if it was found all that was untrue.

Not because I think everyone is racist, but because that's an awful lot of detail to go into to be lying about all of it. It's definitely not impossible, but unlikely I'd say.

My take exactly.

I tend to think the normal professional doesn't jeapordize his career to complain about something unless it's really bad. If he is lying this would amount to professional suicide. Most won't take it that far unless it's true.. Just the other side of the coin.

Being a retired Captain from a large metro FD, you would be surprised at those looking for a check in the easiest way possible.

I am not saying this person is lying. I will have to wait until an investigation and trial before I form an opinion.

This could be all hogwash. The point I was trying to make was I've seen and known about situations that you would dismiss if you heard about it, " like that didn't happen, no way". But I assure you those situations did occur and nothing was done about it but move the victim away from the offender. While this situation may or may not be true, I know occurrences this egregious happen. I've seen the coveup aftermath.

Oh, I am well aware these situations exist. I have witnessed a few in my day.

The he one part of his story I find completely implausible is the fact he didn't reveal he was an atheist for 3-4 years. In a firehouse, you are like family. At times, you spend more time with the guys at the station than you do your family. Religion, kids, politics, it all just comes up at the firehouse.

I had an issue several months ago in my current job. A guy was griping about refugees and used the term [sand n-word]. I told him the word offended me. He was curious why. I told him, besides being a decent human being, my daughters are from Africa. He was dumbfounded. Thankfully, he quit a few weeks later.

In this BG case, either there is a massive cover up or this guy is full of it. If what he says is true, I hope they all get fried. If he is lying, I hope he does.

I'm holding out an opinion until we hear the other side and get a judgement.

The thing if true that seems the most shocking is that he basically put everyone in FD leadership on blast. Don't we have BG residents on this board ? Does your FD have this reputation?

I can easily see him keeping his atheism hidden given the comments made by other members of the FD. I mean they said if they worked with an atheist they'd make sure they died in a fire. After hearing that, wouldn't you keep it under wraps too?

My guess is that the truth is somewhere wedged in the middle.

Actually, and this is just me, I would have put him on alert and held his feet to the fire. Lets say he said the same thing about a Christian. I would have said "well you know Dave, I'm a Christian, are you saying if I got in trouble you wouldn't help me, you'd let me die"? Amazing how a lot of people start back peddling when you out them like that.

Of course they'd say they wouldn't when confronted about it. But when but in the life or death situation, would you really want to risk finding out though?

I think, in MOST circumstances, it's just "big talk" and guys trying to show off...hey look at me, I'm Billy Baddbutt, I'll do this and this and wouldn't do this. Very very very rarely do they actually mean it. But, if a comment like that is made, I believe it has to go higher up and be addressed because you never know, it might be that 1 in 10,000 times that the guy actually does mean it.

You don't understand how the firehouse operates. I can't make you understand over a message board either. As I said before, it would be near impossible to keep hidden 3-4 years.

With that line of insight, it could be viewed that his co-workers knew all along, and still decided to be belligerent about it. Which means they either really meant it, or went to extremely great lengths to screw with the guy.

Or he is lying.

Why don't we wait until all the facts come out before we form our opinions? There are always two sides to every story.

Isn't saying it's not possible for him to keep his atheism hidden for 3-4 years also forming an opinion before the facts come out? Just sayin....:idunno:
