Can anyone say who was denied the opportunity to move up?

I can't speak for the KHSAA, but Knott was probably considered a better geographic fit for the district. Somerset probably fits in geographically better in their new district.

Knott is roughly 2hrs. and 30 minutes from both Corbin and Middlesboro. KCC asked to move to 3A in the district with Breathitt,Estill,Powell, and Magoffin, and Cawood, but were denied. Fleming County asked and was palced in this district. Knott will play where ever they place the Patriots.Long trip when Fleming and Cawood play next season at least 4 hours.Map quest says 192 miles ... 3hours 53 minutes so add another 45 minutes to a bus ride. Will they play on Saturday?

And even farther from Somerset, hence my reasoning.
It was fortunate, I suppose, that an adjacent district had five teams, one of which wouldn't be a geographic stretch to move into CovCath's district.

If Knott was granted a request to play up, who could replace them?

Somerset.:D It sure is a lot closer than Knott Co.

I don't have any of the answers, just the questions. I'm still not sure how Corbin is 2A with over 360 boys in the high school this year.

I take it the Corbin faithful are very disappointed that Somerset won't be in the same district. Wanting some payback, perhaps?

It would be like old times with Somerset, Middlesboro & Corbin in the same district again. Maybe we could push each other enough to consistently become legit contenders again.

Nothing against the teams currently in Corbin's district, but other than Garrard giving us a scare a couple of years ago, the last four weeks of the season have become pretty boring.

You can't blame East and West Jessamine for wanting to move up and avoid a district with Boyle and Lex Catholic. It is understandable they were denied since they have traditionally been in the same district with one or both.

I'm not picking one side or the other yet on this issue, but I am with you on this! These teams were big time district rivals, I was looking forward to playing each other again.

I can blame them. That is just a defeatest attitude. Work harder to beat Boyle and Lex Cath. They aren't unbeatable. Just sounds like East and West just want to run from competition instead of meeting it head on and working to better their program.

I am not justifying them in any way. I could care less. I was just stating that maybe they thought this was their big break from Boyle or Lex Catholic and that door got shut.

I would have to say that if the arguement was the same for a school who move up and a school who was denied they would have a complaint but I know a lot went into the ability to move up. If you were worried about them leaving a team or district short maybe they should have went with the original plan to not let anyone move up and then no one could cry foul.

Something I found intersting about Fleming County's request was that they (Fleming Co.) say the primary reason they wanted to move districts was because they already scheduled Breathitt, Estill, and Powell. They failed to mention that under the proposal they already had Mason, Russell, East Carter, West Carter, and Lewis County. (teams in the district under the proposal). Just makes no sense to me.

They still can, if both parties are agreeable.
