What's Your Favorite Appetizer?

Featured Replies

I'm also a sucker for any battered and deep-fried cheese appetizer. As far as chains go I'm a fan of O'Charley's pepperjack cheese wedges.

I don't really consider wings an appetizer as I more often than not eat them as a meal.

AMEN to both

If I had to pick one favorite it would be the Crab Rangoon at Amerasia...

Nothing better than good Crab Rangoon.

My sausage and bean queso dip.

Love some pretzels and beer cheese

Can't go wrong with fresh oysters on the half-shell

Love me a good steamed pork or shrimp dumpling

Good potato skins are great. It seems most places don't have very good ones in my experiences.

That would be because almost no one makes them in house anymore.

Once upon a time you baked potatoes and allowed them to fully cool. This creates a starch transfer in the potato. Then you would split the potato, and there was actually a tool made to scoop out the potato. You would have a skin with a thin layer of potatoe and potatoes wedges.

The skins would fry up nice and crispy, instead of the mushy crap you get now.

The wedges could be used for steak fries, soup, or home fries.

Now a days, everybody buys frozen blanched potatoe skins. There's no starch change in the potato and there is to much potato flesh.

So you'd get potato wedges and potato skins out of the same potato??

Yes, but it's more like steak fries because they don't have skins on them.

Okay....I guess I can follow that.

I have a new one. Went to Gospel Bird on Saturday night. My group split several appetizers. Two stood out and I can't wait to go back and have some more of them: Brussels spouts with sesame goat cheese and almonds, and fried green tomatoes with house made pimento cheese. Next time I'm skipping the entree and thats what I'm ordring for dinner.

And another...tomato and goat cheese tart at Provence.

Spiked Calimari at Brick House. Fried Calimari and peppers.

I used to love the fried mushrooms at the old CR Thomas in Ashland and Ironton.
