Whenever people start insinuating a mass media conspiracy they lose credibility for me. All the media cares about is hits to their website and/or viewers. Trump generates interest and that is why he got and gets so much coverage. It is like watching a disaster in progress.

 

I will agree with Cruz that the political pundits making comments that a race is over or a candidate has little chance are damaging.

It's also my recollection that in the early stages of the campaign Trump's lead in the polls were often brushed off as a flash in the pan, similar to other candidates' temporary leads in the last primary, and even as the campaign trudged on the conventional wisdom was that Bush, then Rubio, would be the eventual nominees. Besides giving him more coverage than the less entertaining candidates, the media's biggest failing was constantly reminding people he didn't have a chance.

 

The media has been seizing on his controversial statements for the entirety of his campaign, going back to his campaign announcement when he invoked Mexico sending rapists across the border. There's no question he got a tremendous [Trump voice] amount of free media, including little perks like being able to call into news shows that seemed unusual, but his coverage was never favorable or puffed up.

No question. Trump got a huge media advantage under the rubric of "there's no such thing as bad publicity," not through rosy coverage, which is what I was trying to get at.

Sounds like the stuff I remember from the old transactional analysis fad (Maybe it's still going strong, I don't know). Even negative strokes are better than no strokes.

If anyone watched fox,nbc,cnn,abc, ect ect after a day or two and you couldn't see a bias, your either blind or your audio is broke on your tv.

Seems plausible that free advertising would make a huge difference in elections nowadays. I can also see the point that Trump sucked the wind out of the elections with his rhetoric that always lead the nightly news....benefitting HRC in the end.
