TB&G is exactly right that other threads in here take off when people are having intense disagreement and duke it out. Threads on police use of force often revolve around justifiably or racial issues, which do cause pretty intense disagreements. No one on this website is going to defend or justify what happened here and I don't think there is any doubt the perp will be caught and locked up. What is there to debate? And why would you equate people not arguing about this to people not caring?

Rocket brought up a very valid point, in another thread about an officers spine being crushed during a "peaceful protest", many posters were only outraged that people had brought their kids to the protest. Not that the officer has had a life altering injury. Maybe the posters didn't mean it as such, but it came across that way.

I didn't say he wasn't. I said some could interpret it as being outraged only because the kids were brought.

 

What you and I may find reasonable, others will not.

 

I try to look at both sides of an issue. Guess I play Devil's advocate sometimes.

You're stance on all this is evident. Because the officer was the victim, we get "well what's there to say? He's a victim." When some think the officers are in the wrong, we get hundreds of post about. My point is, folks only care when the cop MIGHT be in the wrong. No one gives a damn when cops are being hunted.

 

I don't know what you think my stance is, so I'll be clear. I'm horrified by the Dallas police shootings and every other incident of violence against police. Their job is dangerous enough, without any added targets on their backs.

 

At the same time, I can be concerned about incidents that may be police using improper force against civilians. Further, I can listen to the concerns of people that I know are black and how they feel scared for their children, particularly their young adult sons.

 

In either case, I've never financially supported the BLM movement, but I do support two police organizations.

 

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, your last line made me consider a different point. I had never thought of the issues of violence against cops as "cops being hunted." I'll have to spend some time thinking about that, but if that is your stance, I can certainly understand why you are ticked off at what you see to be a general attitude of apathy toward violence against police.

Forgive my stupidity in not realizing that that was your original point. Hopefully, I'm not alone in overlooking that or I will feel extra stupid.

 

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to do the job each and every day, working hard to keep people safe and to forge relationships with your citizens and still feel like someone somewhere is out to get you.

BLM and the main message is a good and noble idea. Those who feel powerless want a voice. Those who feel prejudice want people to take notice. I can get behind that.

 

My problem right or wrong from the start with the actual group I will list.

 

1. They have allowed socialist , Marxist and anarchist groups to infiltrate the movement. I cannot support any movement that gives those individuals a voice.

 

2. No clear leadership or realistic solutions. Anger is justified with some of what they say , but anger needs to evolve to solutions and not just disruption.

 

3. I don't know what % it is of the movement but we can't deny the amount of violence that surrounds a lot of these protests and dangerous rhetoric being chanted.

 

I saw @JimSchue mention the tea party. The tea party was vilified in the media but violence at their event was essentially non existent .

 

I'm all open for discussion. I'm a pretty reasonable person except for when adults play Pokemon Go , but BLM as it exists in it's current state is not healthy for any conversation.

 

I was simply comparing the eerie similarity in rhetoric, nothing more.
