Southeastern 7v7 - Dalton, GA - Ryle HS & Bowling Green HS - 7/15 & 7/16

Featured Replies

Ryle High School & Bowling Green High School will represent the Bluegrass next weekend at the Southeastern 7v7 Tournament down in Dalton, Georgia. This tournament features 3 pools of 8 teams. Teams are almost all from southern states, especially Georgia and Alabama. All teams begin pool play on Friday the 15th and finish up with the Championship and Consolation Brackets on Saturday the 16th. According to the website Home - Southeastern 7on7 Championship, the top 4 teams in each pool move into the double elimination Championship Bracket, while the lower 4 teams move to the double elimination Consolation Bracket. Bowling Green has attended this tournament 4 of the last 5 years with their best showing finishing 3rd overall in 2013. This will be Ryle High School's first trip to Dalton.

The Ryle HS Raiders come to the Peach State off a fine 2015 campaign earning a 9-3 record and ending with a loss to Simon Kenton in the 6A Regional Semifinal. 8 starters return on the offense and 6 starters return on the defense giving Ryle one of the most experienced 2016 teams in 6-A. They are lead by Sr QB (6-1, 205) Tanner Morgan, who has committed to playing on Saturdays at Western Michigan. Ryle will play their Friday 7/15 pool games at Dalton HS and their schedule is as follows:

11:00 vs. Dalton, GA - 9-3 (2nd Round of the Playoffs); Have a WR with >20 FBS offers.

12:10 vs. Valdosta A - Only team with a split squad playing; 8-3 last year (Regional Final).

1:55 vs. Westside, SC - 11-2; Return 5 offensive starters and 6 defensive starters.

3:05 vs. N FL Christian, FL - 7-5; Lost in 2A Quarterfinals last year.

5:05 vs. Park Crossing, AL - 8-3; Lost in 1 Round of Playoff last year. QB is committed to UofL

6:15 vs. Martin Luther King, AL - 4-6;

7:25 vs. Brentwood Academy, TN - 12-1; Won Division II Class AA State Championship Last Year. A threat to win this tournament.

Bowling Green comes to Georgia as the 5A State Champion, a 2015 record of 14-1, and money to burn on offense with Seniors Payne (QB), Carothers (RB) and Wilson (WR) leading the way. However, the defensive back 7 are all inexperienced except for SR S Tyler Stahl. They will really be tested here. The Purples will play their Friday 7/15 pool games at North Murray HS (just east of Dalton) and their schedule is as follows:

1:55 vs Jefferson Davis, AL - 6-4 competing in AL highest classification.

2:30 vs. Cleveland, TN - 5-6 lost in First Round of 5A Playoffs.

4:30 vs. N Murray, GA - 4-6 Host School

5:40 vs. N Forsyth, GA - 2-8 New Coach Robert Craft with impressive resume takes over.

6:50 vs. East Hall, GA - 6-5 Lost First Round of Playoffs

8:35 vs. Coahulla Creek, GA 2-8; 5th year of the varsity program

9:45 vs. Cartersville, GA - 15-0 Class 4A State Champions; Threat to win this tournament

It would clearly appear Ryle is in the harder bracket, but also understand that the teams that generated those 2015 records won’t be in Dalton next week as MANY have graduated and as you already know……a new season and new teams are on the horizon.

PurpleNation and I are very likely to drive down to take in this tourney as we aren’t into baseball, love the Purples and also use just about any excuse we can to get away for something like this.

RaiderNation, never fear; I pledge to do my best to try to update you on this tourney, as I am pulling big time for you guys. My biggest opponent on Friday will be game times and location, as I likely won’t be in Dalton until BGs first game, but BG and Ryle are at different venues on Friday 25 minutes apart (shooting to go to their 3:05 game). But I am hoping they will get to play at the same venue on Saturday.

Thanks for posting this 88, please keep us updated on this event. We all want to know how the in-state teams are doing.

Cartersville is the real deal

They beat Buford for the State Title and that is no small feat. Buford is probably pound for pound the best program in the Country based on school size.

Dont know what they return but if they have a good contingent back from a team that shutout Buford 10-0 then they will be solid

Great job, P88. Should be a handful of teams that will make a run for the championship. Cartersville, GA (who the Purples play in the final game Friday night) could be the tourney favorite. Probably 6 teams in the tournament will win state this upcoming season in various classes from Alabama, Georgia, Florida and hopefully, Kentucky

Purples, in this tourney, will be interesting. As crazy as it sounds they will be top 3 offensive units in Dalton. Maybe 1 or 2! Their Defense, mostly newbies will be playing against 4 or 5 teams with D1 talent WRs. Not sure how they will be able to hold up. I have a hunch they will do better than expected. HOWEVER, their skills on offense is going to be a freight train moving down hill this season. QB, 3WRs and RB for Purples will all be playing on Saturdays next year. Not many teams in Bluegrass will be able to keep them out of the endzone.

Looking forward in seeing how this 7on7 pans out. Certainly looking forward to Friday nights next month.

ATL, to me Cartersville has to be one of the favorites this year. Will be interesting to see them next week as I've heard they are one of the best teams in GA.

Want more proof that Cartersville is going to be a beast? Their QB, Trevor Lawrence, is the number 1 prospect IN AMERICA. Furthermore, he is only a junior. As a sophomore (led team to 15-0, state champs) he threw 43 TDS with only 4 INTs.

Look him up. Rated number 1 in Nation. He will be hard to stop in a 7on7 tourney. If BG Purples wanted to throw rheir defense in the fire, they just did!

Go get em Purples

They lost a lot of talent off that team but they'll still be pretty dang good. Lawrence is one of the best qbs I've seen in high school. At a 7v7 at UGA he completed every pass in the championship game.

If Cartersville doesn't win this tournament I'll be surprised.

Valdosta is no joke of a team.

100% truth!! This team has speed upon speed. Confirmed this with former Ga. Standout and current OSU QB Stephen Collier.

They aren't that good in my opinion and their offensive minded coach just left and they replaced him with the DC that was on staff.
