Argument:

 

The game now matters. Winning determines home field advantage.

 

Wouldn't you want Billy on the team if you're Collins from the Mets or Yost from KC and you think your team has a chance to make the playoffs and possibly the World Series?

 

Managers are still picking AS teams like they did when it meant nothing in regards to post-season.

 

When will we see a team put together to win vs to reward players for good half-seasons?

If they played the game like it really mattered he would make the team, yes. He's arguably the best defensive CF and he's obviously a great guy to have on the bench for defensive substitution or to pinch run in late game situations.

Pretty easy answer IMO.

 

If the game matters, absolutely. You won't find a better defensive player or a better weapon to use in a late pinch-running situation.

You pinch run him at first in a tight All-Star game and he will steal you 2nd,3rd and HOME, on consecutive pitches, just turn him loose

Then don't call it an ALLSTAR GAME. He is NOT a first half of 2016 season allstar. It's obvious to me this stupid rule that MLB tacked on the game for World Series home game advantage hasn't made these guys take it any more serious that they did before the dumb rule.

 

Now if you want it to be a different game like some of you are describing, let the MLB players, coaches and managers select those for that game. Maybe add some extra money to the $50,000 to be paid to each player on the winning team.

He is batting .239 (.286 obp) and only has 19sb's this year in 69 games . 14 walks and 50 K's. He gets a 3 day holiday at home watching the game on TV.

If the game was meant to be played to win ..................then you would not have pitchers limited to a number of innings, you would not have catchers allowed to re-enter the game, you would not have any pitchers that pitched Sunday named to the teams and then taken off the roster.

 

If I was the Cubs or Indians or whomever is contending I don't want some player from the Braves facing off with some guy from the Astros and it deciding Home field for the World Series.

 

That stupid rule would never fly in the NBA. Can you imagine if Game 7 home court this year was decided by which Conference won the All-Star game?
