You really go that from Spindoc's comment? Really? When making a point, it is common to make an analogy to a more extreme example to get the point across but for some reason, people seem to jump to the conclusion that the author of the comment is equating them rather than using an analogy.

I think some are overthinking this.

It's funny you say that. Right after I typed that I actually said to myself "now if we can only agree on what Christian means."

The drinking that lead to the alcoholism was a choice but I think most alcoholics become an alcoholic before they even realize it themselves and didn't choose to become an alcoholic.

 

 

 

 

That depends. Would you define pedophilia as actively pursuing sex with children or simply having sexual attraction to children? While similar they are not the same. The first is obviously a choice, the second is just a bizarre unfortunate quirk in someone's physiology that is obviously not a choice.

 

Stating that, I am aware of two people who sought counseling for their attraction to children. One along with continued counseling, moved to an area where children around are rare and removed the internet from his home to prevent temptation. The other I found out struggled much more and seriously considered suicide. I have not heard how he is doing. To the best of my knowledge, neither ever tried to touch a child but I would still say they are pedophiles, but not by choice.

My blathering was just more of the same on the topic. I don't think anyone was born one way or another. We all have affinity for things. But human sexuality is a choice in my opinion. Genetically we are coded to procreate. That's about it.

According to Sound Biblical Doctrine, they are both wrong. According to PP1 I want to beat the crap out of pedophiles. I have no such desire to beat the crap out of homosexuals.

 

So even though I believe they are both wrong, I think one is clearly more damaging then the other.
