Stores that met your expectations

Visiting some family down in Colorado and went to IKEA for the first time to buy some kitchenware... let's just say I'm glad I'm single. 

Ikea is the worst. Never again.

Not a fan either. We bought a bed and furnished our downstairs game room/den with Stuff from IKEA about 10 years ago. While it did look nice, none of the items lasted or wore very well. And none of it was cheap. The bed had problems almost immediately and was especially bad. We pretty much gave up on the stuff and within a few years all of it had found its way into the trash. I have friends that have had the same experience.

Only thing at Ikea worth purchasing is cinnamon rolls.

Central Hardware, MacAlpin's, Shillito's, Zimmer's Hardware, Hill's Seed,....oh wait, they don't exist now just like real customer service.

Jungle Jim's. Always find what I'm looking for that the local grocery stores don't carry.

You definitely have to be careful what you purchase… but with that said I LOVE IKEA.

Anytime my L’ville sisters visit me, we high tail it up to IKEA. It is an awesome place for female bonding, cinnamon rolls and all. LOL I’ve honestly had success with lamps, rugs, kitchen gadgets and some furniture.

Also, if you’re familiar with IKEA… there’s a great youtube video called “guy annoys girlfriend with puns at IKEA”. Hilarious.

I make the trip to JJ's once every 4-6 weeks. Love it that they've opened in Eastgate. Next time you need a shopping buddy there, let me know!!

I worked in retail for many years. And while I'd say customer service probably is down a little, it's not because of the people working there. Cost slashing to stay competitive has caused tighter payroll budgets, and diminished training. Less people doing more work, and without proper training is what is damaging customer service. And all as customers are being more demanding, and dare I say, at times, unreasonable.

There are reason's why the companies you mention are no longer around. If it was all about service, they'd still be in business. But these places were unable to adapt and provide everything a customer is looking for. And in truth, service isn't as high up on customers want lists as you might think.

While I don't doubt most of what you posted, customer service should always be priority one no matter what ( I worked with the public over 30 years and we were reminded of it every day). I think folks younger nowadays don't expect it or demand it with their purchasing power. I realize they just want it now and as cheap as they can get it, then when there's a problem later they complain because of the crappy service shown to rectify that problem. Everybody I know complains about the lack of customer service these days.

"Less people doing more work, and without proper training is what is damaging customer service." Absolutely agree. I can tell you though as a consumer, if I get great customer service, I don't mind paying a little more. But that's me and folks I know.

Customer service is only a big deal to me when I have an issue that needs to be corrected or fixed. I do a lot of research, and usually know exactly what I want and need, and would rather not have some sales associate fawning over me from the minute I walk in the door. Unfortunately, many stores believe that's what customer service is. I'd much rather a store be responsive when I have an issue. I'm not real demanding, as I know what stores are up against from being in retail for so long. Places that are clean and neat, and responsive to problems when I have them, are the stores that get my business. Although, more and more of my shopping takes place online now.

I just may do that. The Eastgate location is much closer than the Fairfield store.
