June 12, 201610 yr I'd even make a straight up trade. All first of the month Americans(those that will not orhave not ever worked, which is the majority to Mexico for their people/illegals,whatever. Have yet to see a Mexican that wouldn't work. Good thing I'm not running for President, my opinions would make Trump blush.
June 12, 201610 yr Did I say working poor that already had a job? Did you read my post above what you put in bold? If you did you would see where I stand. Able bodied means a doctor has not found you disabled. Pretty straight forward. It's not that complicated. It's those in charge that think like you that make it complicated. If you haven't been found disabled by a doctor and you are receiving welfare benefits, you must do community service. There are plenty of things that need to be done. Pick up trash on roadways, Mow the grass beside roadways, feed the needy at shelters, etc. Do something besides setting around playing your Xbox or watching Netflix. Sorry, but that's been part of my job in the past....to look out for possible complications and problems. So it's in my nature to play devil's advocate. In theory, this makes perfect sense. The community get's something in return for the assistance that is provided. But, in reality, let's call this what it is...it's not community service....if we are forcing these tasks onto people in return for "benefits", it then becomes a job. Which brings in a bunch of layers, and issues that must be addressed. What if one of these folks get's injured while "serving"? Would this be covered by workmen's comp?? What about time and hours reporting?? Who becomes responsible for that?? The volunteers who run the program?? Or do you create a government agency to oversee the "community service", and add more layers of goverment that everyone wants to make smaller. I equate this to my days in Loss Prevention. At some point in time, the effort, time and expense you set forth to prevent things from happening, exceed the benefits gained from prevention. I don't deny there's fraud. I just think any program to derive a "benefit" (ie community service) from the welfare system, because very expensive and difficult to manage in itself.
June 12, 201610 yr Complete overhaul. Reduce the amount given to those who do nothing and increase the amount given to the person trying to support a family on a fast food salary. Reward those who are willing to work. I'd also love to see heavy restrictions on what can be purchased with these benefits. Meat, vegetables and bread. Food items that have some form of nutritional value. I see no reason why someone getting assistance should be able to purchase a bag of potato chips and 2 bottles of Mountain Dew at a gas station
