I'm not talking about chain restaurants either. Local places only, and suggestions of the must-try item(s) on the menu are also encouraged. I'll be overnighting at the state park. Who's got the best breakfast and lunch? While I've been dieting and doing pretty well with it lately, I do plan to do some hiking during this time, so that really good fattening stuff is fine by me! If somebody makes a good pecan or lemon merengue pie, or a good cobbler, I wanna know about it. Obviously, I'd welcome anybody who wants to join me for an impromptu BGP gathering. :thumb:

June 8, 201610 yr I was going to say Giovannis in Flatwoods(Love their pizza) but since you said no chain restaurants, I recommend trying My Dad's Pizza Flatwoods,Ky www.mydadspizza.com - Home The libwich is my favorite thing to order from there if I'm ordering a sandwich. I think the pizza is pretty good as well.

As mentioned earlier your best bets are crossing over into Ohio (I know, that's a bad word) and trying the steaks at The Scioto Ribber, or going with something from My Dad's pizza in Flatwoods. IMO, My Dad's is better than Giovanni's now that Giovanni's has become a chain. It was started locally in Ashland, but it's not the same as it was when it was just a few local restaurants. If you venture into Boyd County I can point you to several local places that I could recommend. I hear the JDEaston Bar and Grill is one of the best in town as long as you like your food smoked.

I think Crisp's (A Boyd County hot dog/sandwich/ice cream shop) opened a new location in Flatwoods, though I have no idea where. That may fit your itinerary. It's locally owned, if that's all your looking for. Pretty good hot dogs, great onion rings, but most everything else is average. But that's pretty much what your gonna get from a decent hole in the wall restaurant hah.
June 9, 201610 yr That's one of the three I've not gotten yet, so it's on my itinerary. It was full of graffiti the last time I was there, but it was still a cool bridge, the graffiti and carvings gave it more more character than if it were just a perfect covered bridge. I think they have cleaned it up again since, but I imagine you will still see some carvings and graffiti. It would be worth checking out if you have a chance. It's close to Greenbo Lake, unfortunately the lodge is closed due to a fire or I would recommend stopping by there for a bite to eat.

But that's pretty much what your gonna get from a decent hole in the wall restaurant hah. A place that has good onion rings goes a long way with me. Good dogs are a bonus. I'm not looking for five-star eats here — just local flavor. McPapa knows what I'm talking about.
