Magoffin County school employees charged after teens found drinking

Two Magoffin County Schools employees were arrested, along with another woman, after police found several teens under the influence of alcohol at a party.

Kentucky State Police say they received an anonymous tip on Thursday morning about underage drinking at a birthday party at a home on Patrick Drive in Salyersville. A video of the party was posted to Facebook.

When the investigating trooper arrived, he says he saw several empty beer cans in a trash can by an open door, as well as liquor bottles on the counter. According to court documents, the trooper says he heard a girl in the house yell to "hide the stuff" because police were there. The officer also says he saw a teen hide a bottle of Crown Royal in a cabinet before entering the home.

According to the trooper, there were five juveniles ranging from ages 14 to 19 that tested positive for the presence of alcohol on breathalyzer tests. Two of those juveniles were sent to the emergency room. Police say one of them was unresponsive on the scene.

The home belonged to Wendell King. According to a trooper on the scene, they found King passed out, naked in the master bedroom. Dearl Peters and Leaha Vanhoose were also in the home. All three were arrested and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor.

According to the Magoffin County School System's website, Peters and King are both employed there. Peters is listed as a carpentry teacher at the Magoffin County Career & Tech Center. King is listed as a maintenance worker.

Any adult should know better, but especially a teacher.

Not any longer...

Do adults not watch the news and see this stuff. You never get away with it. Especially not since cell phone cameras.

THEY ARE STUPID.

This the second story like this from my hometown this week. I could say a lot but I'm not going to. I don't think this is the most surprising news of the day.

VanHoose the girls basketball player?

New report says there were two other teachers at the party too smh

Been a while since I've been to Salyersville. Had a friend from there whose last name was, of all things, Salyers.

Was one of the adults arrested a parent of one of the kids? I saw that it was a Birthday Party, it would seem random to have it and no parent there.
