May 15, 201610 yr I guess in a way, the nurse was just doing her job. Shark bite victim taken to hospital with shark attached to her arm
May 15, 201610 yr Author I'm simply amazed at the inability of people to react during something like this.
May 15, 201610 yr Author Thank you! I guarantee the first thing I would have done was separated the shark from it's head. That works every time.
May 16, 201610 yr Author Burn it with a lighter? Stab it? Put it in a cooler full of ice? Step on it? I could think of 100 ways to get that small shark off my arm smh.

May 16, 201610 yr Since the shark was dead and, according to the article, has lots of small, serrated teeth, what was the harm in allowing it to stay in place while she was transported to the hospital?

Medical expense. Time. Probably not a bad idea to have it professionally cleaned though. The flesh eating bacteria is a real thing and it sucks.

This is a good lesson for those of you who are new to surf fishing or somehow end up in contact with a smaller shark. They will aggressively try to bite you. Even the small ones.

I went Shark fishing with some guys one night a couple of years ago. They caught a Ray looking thing and a shark that was a legit 4 feet long. There was no question about it, that was a dangerous beast.
May 16, 201610 yr Author On the smaller ones, you can hold them behind the head and it kind of stabilizes/paralyzes them. I don't recommend handling anything over 30" unless you know what you're doing.

Did going out of the water play anything into the shark not letting go? If she would have stayed in the water and people helped her there, would there have been a better chance of it letting go?
May 16, 201610 yr I would venture that the shark had fully extended it's jaws and could not release. Personally, I would not have been concerned about saving the shark's life. A quick cut with my knife to separate the jaws would have done the trick. He would have vaguely resembled The Joker.
May 16, 201610 yr Author When it's shark vs. human...the shark dies. I almost can't believe she rode to the hospital with a shark on her arm
