Nelson Co. 23 Bullitt East 20

Nelson Co. and BE played each other very well the other night. Yes BE had more penalities, but 3 or 4 of the so called 14 they had were unsportman like conduct calls. BE had more then enough chanes at the end of the game to come back and steal the game but couldn't answer the call. There was a very questionable call when Nelson Co. Senior Safety Tyler Smith intercepted the ball ran two yards and was tackled and fumbled the ball but Nelson recovered. The interception was called incompelete and on the following BE play they scored. The bottom line is Nelson Co. wanted it more.. GREAT FIRST WIN.. KEEP THAT BARRELL!!!!

Do you really want to talk about questionable calls? How about the BE field goal that was called no good, it WAS. The first call was not unsportsmanlike, but was for BE having too many players on the field after the BE defense recovered a fumble. It was a change of possesion for crying out loud. The one unsportsmanlike penalty was attrocious. It was started by a ref on the other side of the field calling a block in back on BE, the official right on top of the play said the BE player didn't touch him, he didn't. Coach Settles was trying to get the ref's attention to get them to discuss the call. Coach Settles was barely on the field, the official to coach to back up, which he did, but he still flagged him.

I'm not going to say the bad calls cost BE the game, because BE played poorly, but a Nelson fan has no right to complain about the officiating, they got most of the calls.

You and I must have been watching two different field goal attempts, the ball was way left. At the end of the game the score board read 23 to to 20 Nelson.. Which really should have been 23 to 13 IMO...

Like I said earlier.. BE had 2 drives at the end of the game that resulted in negative yardage.. Can you really PIN that on a ref? The last drive of the game they couldn't even complete a pass not the mention having the ball intercepted AGAIN..

I didn't blame the loss on the refs. Nelson in no way dominated that game. Despite those last 2 drives for negative yardage BE outgained Nelson Co. in offense 293 to 220. BE also outgained Nelson in return yardage 122 to 73. That's 122 yards, but that was mostly offset by the 101 more yards in penalties. Bottom line, you can't expect to win a game when you have 14 penalties, but don't kid yourself, Nelson didn't dominate the game. As far as the FG, the coaches checked it on film, it was good. There is no way it missed left. He kicked it from the right hash and the ball boy standing between the uprights caught the ball.

One of the guys I talked to in Louisville last night said this score shocked him the most of any score he knew of.

Cograts to the winners and good luck in week two.

I believe there is a thread about the only place to know for sure if a field goal is good. I don't want to ruin it for you but it can be found right here:

Once again the refs didn't cost BE the game but when two rushing teams play and the away team gets 7 holding calls and the home team gets one ... it's going to be questioned. 14 penalties to 3.

Also the fumble play the Nelson Co. fan was talking about was an incomplete pass in every way. The wr it was thrown to stripped the ball as soon as the defensive player caught it, there was no two steps. Also the same WR on BE went up caught the ball came down with it on his back and a ref from across the field came in and said incomplete. So there were questionable calls the whole game.

The thing that cost BE the game was the play of the O-line, plain and simple. Nelson County deserved the win.
