Highlands started off on fire but quickly cooled down. The Birds 4th plated run was a Scud Missle hit by Graybill that I heard they needed a Shovel to retrieve it from the Right-Center hillside....Great win Birds!

Nice job LadyBirds on the win. But how in the wide wide world of sports does an ump miss a call that bad. I wasn't there but is there not an ump situated behind 1st or between 1st & 2nd? Maybe an official on here can clarify the ump positioning to where there is a situation that this could be missed. Just sayin!

Positioning is determined by where the runners are. If no runners are on the umpire would be right there behind first base and then come out to make the call. But if runners are on second and/or third he's all the way behind the SS from what I've seen in fastpitch.

That's reasonable. Except for the fact that from behind the shortstop, the ump should have clearly seen the ball in the web of the glove and the runner still 2 steps away. But then again, he must not have. Either way, looks like that play didn't affect the outcome of the game.

….and moving toward first base through the center of the infield. Should end up somewhere stationary behind the pitchers mound, around 20 - 25 feet from the call.

Situation. No runners on ump was about 15 feet behind first. Seemed to be looking at a play at first... Just not this one...lol

 

I appreciate the thankless job umps do but at some point you just need to hang up the mask. The plate ump was calling strikes before the ball ever reached the plate as well. Kinda a shame a game of this caliber, or any game for that matter, can be affected by things like this.

Another well thrown game by Spencer!! Would also have to agree that the call did not have any influence on the game. Got to score to have a chance and that didn't happen. Bailey is doing a great job of making batters hit her pitch, she is going to be a lot to deal with in the post season run for the Lady Birds!!

Someone said the young boy (guessing 10 or 11) got the call right from behind backstop! He was fun to watch he had full equipment colors and a mask. kid called a good game!

^^I've seen this kid at the State Tournament. You're absolutely right, so fun to watch and he takes it very serious. He is one of those great things that adds to the atmosphere of amateur sports.
