May 5, 201610 yr Wife and I are looking to replace the flooring in our house. All 3 bedrooms, the hallway, the living room, and the steps to basement need to be done. It's currently carpeted, and that's what we're thinking we'll be replacing it with, but are definitely not opposed to other types of flooring. We don't want poor quality, but we're not looking to break the bank either. What are some recommendations of flooring and/or places to look into?

You should be able to get some nice carpet at a reasonable price. Some people say the carpet is only as good as the padding you put under it. I used Carpetland in Earlanger in the past.

I've heard the same about the padding. When I bought the house in 2012, the carpet was in rough shape. Probably needed to go then, but I had other more pressing things to do. Then we got a puppy, so we weren't going to replace it while he was having accidents still. So now it REALLY needs replacing. :lol2:

So now it REALLY needs replacing. :lol2: There are some nicer laminate options that would probably be a little easier to clean. Something to consider because of the dog.

May 5, 201610 yr Here's some great ideas for you... Coincidentally the first floor shown "Sandy Tetris" was what my parents went with in the late 70's in our kitchen. I really think you ought to go with the shag shown in #33, or maybe even the cool blue carpet in #35. Ugly Flooring From History

May 5, 201610 yr I like laminate. If you can install it you save money. If you've never installed it you'll want someone familiar with it.
May 6, 201610 yr Hardwood is nice but cold. And you end up covering it with a throw rug. Do carpet. Wife and I have been fighting about this for years.
May 6, 201610 yr In my dorm living days, I found that carpet remnants can go a long way toward making the place feel homely. That was 20+ years ago and I've not purchased a lick of carpet since. Some aspects of renting don't totally suck.
