The thing about the Smith pick is that I heard the DR who did his surgery is the Cowboys DR and he is confident of his return.

That is true. The Cowboys had a better understanding of any of the other teams as far as the medicals and recovery. Doctor felt confident so they felt confident.

 

I also read that Belichick was going to nab Smith with the Pats second rounder if he made it that far. Perhaps even trade up for him. So it is now clear there was at least a handful of teams who felt good about taking a chance for him.
