Cincinnati Bengals Draft

One person's A is another person's D. Saw some gave Cowboys A, Some D

True but I haven't seen anything but A's for the Bengals so far. Everyone seems to like what they did.

True but in regards to the bengals it has been all A's and the lowest being a Bengals. So the consensus for the Bengals draft unlike the Cowboys is very good.

I really liked those middle 3 picks, but don't think the need for another corner with your first pick was warranted. Would have even taken S-Vonn Bell at that pick or a better WR, not a fan of small, slow receivers(Boyd)

The Bengals use to suck at the draft because they use to always pick based on need rather than best player available. Absolutely zero reason to reach in the first round to get a position of need. Especially when the only true position of need was wr. But would have been stupid to reach for a wr with that pick to get a guy like the Oklahoma receiver.

As for the draft after being initially disappointed when the 4 wrs were taken before the Bengals picked. The more I read and learned about the corner Jackson the more I like the pick. The WR Boyd only beat almost every record Fitzgerald held at Pittsburgh and people say he compares a lot to Keenan Allen of the Chargers and we saw how hard he is to guard with his great route running. Plus he is very good at going up to get the ball.

The third round backer the Bengals stayed true to their board even though other people's boards had him as a 4th rounder. I think the Bengals have showed we should trust their board more than other peoples. It's not a bad thing when people say his instincts compare similarly to Luke Keuchly.

Billings in the 4th round is a steal. Just a week ago Todd McShay had the Bengals taking Billings in the first round in his mock draft.

The 5th round pick adds depth and toughness to the line and the 6th round picks adds a taller receiver with speed who should only get better the more he plays receiever. As for the 7th round pick it looks like he could end up being a special teams captain one day like Reggie Myles use to be.

6th pick Core the WR is a good special team player.

I think it was a solid, if unspectacular draft for the Bengals. It's hard to make a splash picking that late. No issues taking the CB in the first round. Dennard is small and slow. This kid seems to better fit the model of the new CB in the NFL.

Curious on how you make an observation in Denard on very little playing time so far. He has been so injury prone it's hard to tell what he will be like.

The scouting report when he was drafted is where I got my comments from. His reputation is that he's good in the run game and not afraid to tackle but that he'll have issues with bigger, faster receivers. He's a good coverage guy but won't get any bigger or faster.

Bengals needed a feature WR and didn't get one. Not really their fault because they were picked before the Bengals were up.

Why did Billings drop so far?

What happened to the kid from Xavier?

He wasn't going to get drafted, but I'm wondering the same. I love the idea of adding Abell to the practice squad to see what he can do.

The Bengals have AJ Green and Eifert. They didn't have to have a featured WR, but just someone that can develop into a solid #2 and Boyd can do that possibly. He wont be as good as Jones right away, but should be solid.

Interesting, and let me start off by saying he is not going to be like Richard Sherman. But to show how going by a scouting report out of college is silly when someone has been out of college for a few years.

Richard Sherman's scouting report out of college said this: Sherman is a size prospect with some good intangibles that will help him mold into a contributing backup corner for a press-heavy team. However, he does not possess the natural coverage instincts, fluidity or burst to be considered a future starter. Is comfortable and capable in press man, using his size to disrupt receivers' releases off the line, but doesn't show enough make up speed to consistently recover when beaten. Awareness in zone and off-man are only adequate. Has average ball skills but some upside as a playmaker. Tough against the run but still developing from a technical standpoint. Sherman is a Day 3 prospect. His scouting report says he was not that fast with a 4.56 40 time, awareness in zone and mad were only adequate. With his outlook being at best a backup Corner.

This was Dennards scouting report: Strengths Looks the part -- well-proportioned, muscular physique with strong calves and thin ankles. Good press strength. Controlled, efficient pedal. Field-fast with competitive play speed. Transitions cleanly in man-off coverage. Has very good eyes and anticipation and reacts quickly to what he sees. Good pattern recognition -- sorts out what he sees quickly. Stays in the hip pocket downfield. Swift speed turn. Likeable personality. Accountable with leadership traits.

Weaknesses Has been slowed by injuries and durability needs to be examined closely (double hernia surgery). Showed some hip stiffness in combine drills. Was not asked to play a lot of zone coverage. Could stand to get functionally stronger and work to disengage from blocks. Could show more consistent willingness to support the run and set a hard edge. Selective physicality.

Seems to me the scouting report thought very highly of Dennard, and his main weakness was injuries in college, which seems to be the same now. Which is why I say injuries have made it impossible to tell how he is in the NFL.

Agree... If Eiffert can stay healthy (maybe a big if)... He is a feature receiver. Not a typical TE, he's special.

IDk if its true slowness, or more like he doesnt know what to do, and it makes him look slow, but Ive noticed it. Kids been a project first round pick, but its time for him to show up or show out.
