Can I have my bourbon and coffee at the same time?

 

I mean... Duh. As far as Newberry Bros. is concerned, it's all one big, buzzy-boozy, happy family.

 

Order that latte you're so fond of. Maybe add on a quick bite from the Bistro menu. And round out the experience with a tidy glass of that hard-to-find Bourbon you've been jonesing for.

 

Neat. So it's all in one big, magical place?

 

Magical? Definitely.

 

Big? Well... It's not too huge. It's not too small. It's just right.

 

Over the past year or so, the couple behind the magic (Kim & Peter Newberry) did a little expanding. The establishment's footprint, which initially only housed the cafe/bistro, flexed into the attached garage. Next thing ya know... Voila! The Prohibition Bourbon Bar is open, rocking, and making quite a rep for itself.

 

Sold. Any last "need-ta-knows"?

 

Make sure you're going on the right days. (Nothin' worse than making a date with your brand new café bestie, only to find out that you've mistimed the whole rendezvous. Right?)

Anyone been there?

Have gone for breakfast a few times. Cinnamon rolls are on point...

Breakfast - I've ordered the goetta croissant multiple times and I have never ordered a croissant or picked them out at the grocery at any other point in my life. They're very very good. My better half has ordered a cinnamon roll a few times and I agree they are on point. Everything else seems to be homemade and looks solid. I have no complaints about the coffee, but I prefer Carabello a few blocks away.

 

Drinking - We actually went with another couple yesterday because the weather was nice and it had been a week since I had an Old-Fashioned there. I don't often order cocktails, so it's hard for me to compare to others, but I can only say that it is made with care and tastes awesome. I've had the Manhattan as well and it was also really good, but I prefer Old-Fashioneds.

 

I believe it is only open Friday-Sunday and they have a happy hour from 5-7. Different bourbons, cocktails, and wines are $4-6. I'm not sure if they still do, but on Sundays they would always sells glasses of any wine that was opened the past two days for $4 or $5. We have had service when sitting outside that has ranged from fantastic to leaving much to desire, but when going to sit down for drinks, you're rarely in a hurry.

 

I almost hesitated to talk about one of my favorite places since seating is sometimes at a premium on really nice days, but I'd love the owners to get as much business as they can. They are really nice, and if anything else the bar is neat to look at since there are so many different bottles.

Another good bar down in Newport is my buddies bar Bourbon and Broad.

I'll be in NKY/Cincinnati in a couple of weeks for a class. I'll have to check this place out.

It's a nice spot but I haven't been since they expanded. I usually reserve Bourbon drinking for Labor Day thru KY Derby.
