Tackett forming group to look at Sweet Sixteen attendance problems

Featured Replies

As discussed exhaustively in a previous thread, Commissioner Tackett has recognizes the KHSAA's responsibilies and is running with the ball to attempt to solve the obvious erosion in Sweet Sixteen attendance. To not exhaust those that are interested posters, I would suggest you view the same thread on the Boy's Basketball forum, and maybe isolate comments to that thread. Parallel posts would be exhausting and redundant in most cases.

Not centrally located.

Evidently promoted poorly.

Play at the same venue as the boys on the same weekend just like the All A.

The sweet 16 is not going to play games at 8:00 in the morning.

Only day would be the first day or add a day and not play games at 8:00AM. I agree that's early but there are ways to work it out, attendance is down for both boys and girls.

Vs back in the old days, my guess is same amount of hard core fans going - family, friends, fans of school.

But not getting casual fans now. Why? Casual fan can watch on line - less hassle, and cheaper when considering gas, food, travel - and less of a time investment.

The rise of AAU basketball probably a reason too.

You want to add fans, (regular and post season), add a 30 sec shot clock, people simply want to see a faster game!!

That certainly picks up the pace of the game, but not sure it helps attendance.

And I don't want to see NBA style ball at the H.S. level. I think I'd be in favor of 45 second clock vs 30.

Faster doesn't mean better or more entertaining. And a shot clock will widen the gap between the less skilled teams the top, more skilled teams. I think you'll see a lot more blow outs in the regular season and hurt attendance on that end, which invariably trickles down to the state tourney.

We'll disagree on that, to the fans (most) faster does mean more entertaining! And they don't want to go and watch a team take a minute to get a shot off agains a zone or hold the ball with 4 minutes left in the game and a 6-7 pt lead!
