Talented WKU TE and NFL prospect arrested

Featured Replies

Tyler Higbee of Western Kentucky, who’s considered one of the top tight ends in the 2016 NFL Draft, is facing multiple charges after an early Sunday morning arrest in Bowling Green, Ky.

Zach Greenwell of the Bowling Green Daily Newsreported that Higbee, 23, was charged with second degree assault, second degree evading police and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

He was booked at 2:41 a.m. Sunday, less than three weeks before the draft, and now he’ll have a bunch of questions to answer for NFL evaluators.

The 6-foot-6 Higbee was No. 76 on last week’s Rotoworld draft prospect rankings. He caught 48 passes for 563 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior despite missing five games due to injury.

2nd Degree Assault is a serious charge.

I don't understand why he was charged with Alcohol Intoxication and not DUI. Obviously the reports are short on detail.

From the Bowling Green Daily News:

"This is a very unfortunate situation that we hope to resolve promptly," Lowder said in the statement. "We are currently gathering facts but this incident appears to have been precipitated by the aggressive actions of the alleged victim towards both Mr. Higbee and his girlfriend. We will have additional comment as the situation develops."

Have to be smart. Will be interesting to learn the circumstances.

Since there was no DUI mentioned I have to think he took off on foot when the police arrived?

If I were set to receive millions from the NFL, I would join a cloistered convent until I had received my guaranteed money. No car, no job, no social media, no girl friend, no drinking buddies...nothing. It would be worth it for that short period of time.

But 22 yr olds are invincible, esp. athletes. No need to protect oneself from the type of things that only happen to other people.

Why are some people so bad at making the right decisions? Yikes.

So some "not sure if reliable places" are saying that this all began because the alleged victim threw something and hit Higbee. If thats the case it might change the way this is handled.

^ No question about it. Innocent until proven guilty.

I think the Evading charge got me thinking wrong about it, thanks Rocket.

This was downtown in BG. There weren't any cars involved. There's an area on and near the square with lots of of food, and beverage in a small area.

Just looking at the charges, I'll form a guess as to what transpired... Drunk, gets in a fight, breaks a nose, jaw, orbital bone, etc, (serious physical injury to make it 2nd), cops start pulling up, he runs, but either is quickly caught or thinks better of it and just gets hit with the in the 2nd degree. Not knowing his criminal history, the Assault 2nd gets amended to 4th with visible injury and pays restitution for medical bills

That all sounds reasonable.
