Who is your 6A preseason top 10?

1. Trinity

2. Male

3. Lafayette

4. St. X

5. Simon Kenton

6. Cooper

7. Manual

8. Scott County

9. Ryle

10. Bryan Station

Way too early.

I'll take a stab at it, but the disclaimer is that my opinions are partially based on the past year, as I don't know what every team returns.

 

1. Male

They lost key players, but being the defending champions gives them the nod.

 

2. Trinity

Neck and neck with Male, capable of taking the first slot.

 

3. St. X

I don't know why people are discounting them. They overlooked Central, but played Male closer than anyone except Trinity, and return a solid number of players.

 

4. Lafayette

They will return Walker Woods, and have a team with finals experience. Playing Trinity in the regular season doesn't hurt either.

 

5. Simon Kenton

SK is on the rise, though they've still yet to prove a powerhouse outside of their region.

 

6. Scott County

Scott County has a capable team and is the best threat to Lafayette.

 

7. Manual

Manual has been in a bit of a slump since the rise of Male, and losing their head couch won't help. Still, they have the talent and tradition to cinch a top 10 spot.

 

8. Cooper

Having Hendrix back is a real plus. Playing close to SK in the third round game doesn't hurt either

 

9. Bryan Station

A solid team that will likely have another solid performance.

 

10. Central Hardin

Had the benefit of a weak region to reach the semifinals, but still did well to win out over McCracken County, and earned the nod here.

Coming from a homer perspective on Cooper they need some younger guys to step up and fill a few holes if they want to sit in that top 6-9 range. They have a strong nucleus coming back in Hendrix, Jackson, Meyers, Schlarman, Rocsvag, Centers, and others but lose a few key players that were seniors this past year. I think the question mark right now is on the O and D Lines. Who is going to fill in for Watson and Smith on the DL, and who can slide in and play guard/center and LT on the O-Line for Sand and Watson.

 

They will also need to develop some depth at WR with Michels, Kuchar, Jackson, and the Kellers at TE graduating. Someone has to be able to take the pressure off of Hendrix as he will likely be double covered every game.

The biggest question for the Jags will be at QB. Not sure who steps up to take the pressure off Hendrix at the other WR spots. The OL should be Rocsvag, Centers, Lynn, Yauger and Wasser.

You have large County Schools out in the state who are so large they are considered 6A having to compete with large city schools. Just a rant that somehow success over history needs to play a part in classification or have anot at large champ from the county schools.

Used to have an at large state champion who played the Jefferson County champion for the title but that wasn't good enough. There was always going to be a team from Jefferson Count in the finals so we've have the myriad of "solutions" we've had over the years.

 

The bottom line is until the large schools outside of Jefferson County put on their big boy pants and actually start competing with rather then whining about the the big Jefferson County schools it won't change.

 

I agree, they need to quit trying to manipulate the system. Put each team in their proper geographical district and region and let the chips fall where they may. 4 region champs move on to the semis and the winners go to the finals.

You know this all sounds good in April. But come Playoff time and you have to play another good team from the same county the crying will begin. Funny how schools in the same city think they should be in different regions.

Nope, I am a firm believer in you should have to win your region of the state to advance to the semifinals. What they are doing now completely eliminates a true region champion.

Well, when one region has 10 schools and another has 6 there is bound to be some annoyance.

 

Especially since they used to be 12 schools and 4 schools (requiring that 4 Jefferson County schools play in another region) until schools were moved into different classes outside of what their natural enrollment should indicate, causing uneven regions.

 

I'll assuming you're referring to how Trinity and St. X/Male fans wish they could meet in the finals again.

Question- does making the state finals and losing to the city school make it better? Regardless to win the ring you must beat one of them to win it.

While I don't mind the change of playoff matchups cuz it's a chance to see different teams. And in the playoffs, one team can get on a roll and shock the big city school
