Open Job: Grant County

Featured Replies

The outsiders view of GC is that it's the wild west down there. Issues with football, basketball and even the band. Watched a mom curse at a coach during a frosh girls game DURING PLAY. She walked across the floor, during play, and screamed at the coach before yanking her daughter up from the bench. It's a symptom of a bigger issue IMO.

This is Big school with small school pool of athletes. Grant has two returning players with varsity experience. Expect them two struggle for the next three years. Who ever gets this job must be prepared to work at all levels.

It's fair to say that most coaches, in all sports, may struggle as they build a program from the grass roots. The key is whether parents/administration allow them to coach long enough to see their program flourish and reap the benefits of that early work. In this case, Grant has several youth teams playing in leagues that seem to be very talented.

Not sure what teaching positions are available. I hope they get someone soon.

There is always lots of teaching openings at GC each year.

There is a reason for that.

All the good hires maybe getting away.

Why do so many like GC wait to make a hire when plenty of good coaches are out there?

What are Pros and Cons of grant county?

Pros

Winnable District

Weak Region

Only 1 High School in the County

Next great population boom?

Cons

Simon Kenton is a bigger school with more resources

Walton is getting better at all levels

Only 1 Gym

Not a great basketball history

There has to be more but those were off the top of my head.

Huh? Is the Ark going to bring them in two by two?

I get his point somewhat on that. Boone County has seen tremendous growth the past couple decades. Eventually that may roll south as well. But not solid enough a point for me to consider the job at Grant based on that alone. The biggest selling point it has is the weakness of the 8th region overall.

A weak region compared to ?? May not be as competitive as 6th and 7th on a nightly basis, but Oldham, South Oldham, Collins, Anderson, Shelby, Owen has competed state wide over the last 5 years. I would rethink my position if I was considering the job because someone is suggesting that the 8th region is weak.

Compared to the 6th, 7th, 9th, and most of the time the 10th, and definitely the 11th, the 8th is the weakest region within probably a 2 hour radius. Not saying it doesn't have good competition or tough teams, but comparably it's weaker.

Any word of anyone who has applied for this job?
