I love how people watch kids at the freshman and JV level and think they are good enough to play varsity. Varsity is a completely different animal. These arent 14,15,16 year olds. These are young men that work year round to hurt you when they hit you. That is why you always see seniors winning the starting job at quarterback they are bigger and stronger. I watched Johnston's Hudl video and he has a nice arm very good passer and Gonsey is more of a running qb. I guess it depends on what you want your qb to do.

Yeah, its fun to root for the sophomore because then you have the same guy at the helm for three years. I like Gosney. He's a smart QB and has enough experience to hit the ground running first game. I'd be surprised if he didn't get the job.

To answer your question yes. In 5A and 6A you need alot of juniors and seniors on the field to win championships. If you have more sophomore s than seniors starting you will get destroyed playing with the big boys. However if you are playing in the smaller divisions like 1A and 2A you can get away with a lot of underclassmen.

You gotta have the Jimmy's and the Joe's and if there are better J & J's in the soph class you play them. Not to mention you take a few lumps to create a better future. Sure you can play bigger, stronger kids who are Jr's and Sr's but cant help you win a higher percentage of games. I am sure the coaches know what they are doing.

 

It is clear that nobody has wowed them over the past year or so which is why they have come out to the press and stated its a clean slate and here are the four kids in the running. Like it or not, they all have a chance to win the job and if a sophomore wins it then they are clearly the better option.

Gosney and Cramer are both winners. They will do what it takes to make Highlands successful. QB, Line, Defensive, Carry water run thru a wall. Love both of them.

If Coach W doesn't have a strong season this year, (I know they made it to the semis last year but it was very Not-Highlands like) is there any chance the school would make a change? If he would go 2-8 in the regular season and lose in the first or second round in playoffs, there would definitely be some bad talk in the Fort.

 

I think he is an extension of Dale with a small slice of Duffy (my opinion of the time he coached me). They would be hard pressed to find someone better. Dale had a couple of years where they didn't win it all. BW will get them back on top.

From the outside looking in I figured not winning a championship 2 years in a row is probably something that hasn't been experienced in a while in the Fort so I was just asking for clarification. Met him once and he seemed really smart and knowledgeable about the game and he definitely learned from the best. I wish him the best of luck this year and hope that Highlands has a great year

They did. The two years without was referring to if they did not win it this coming season. Coach W won a state championship his first year, did not last year, and I was saying if he did not win this year would that ruffle feathers?

Sure they did, they beat Owensboro in a crazy 2nd half comeback orchestrated by Beau Hoge and a huge defensive adjustment. Unless I'm crazy?

BW's not going anywhere for a while, probably a long while.
