In the last 75 years the 3rd Region Championship has only been won 23 times by a school other than the current members of the 9th District.

They spent many, many years absolutely owning Perryville, Forkland, Parksville, Lancaster, Camp Dick, Buckeye, Paint Lick, and Buena Vista in district play!

Ha! I did leave out Junction City, strictly on accident, but yes Junction City did have some success. I'll check their titles when I get home. JC also hosted that district tournament for several years.

The only region, that MIGHT have a district as tough as the 9th would be the Lexington District and I'm not sure what the number would be in the 11th. But I promise you that district has not dominated the region like the 9th has the 3rd.

I've not look at stats or anything but I would say the 17th (Hardin County district) has won half of the 5th region titles. Like I said I haven't looked at any previous results.

 

The point I was making was usually if it's a large populated area in a region they usually dominate that region. Such as BG/Warren County Etown/Hardin County.

 

The 5th Region has 18 teams and all but 5 play in Class 3A or smaller in football, 6 of them are in the All A classic in basketball.

I think if you have a problem with how they are weighted, you should compile your own list. :thumb:

WKY, while I do understand your logic, if you want to rate tough districts, I dare you to find a tougher district in the state than the 9th. Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic. Winning this district is much tougher than winning the 3rd Region.

 

FWIW, Apollo is 64th among existing schools, Daviess County is 67th, and Owensboro Catholic is 172nd.

While I understand what you are saying, my point was one district, in this case the 9th has owned a region, in this case the 3rd. As you are saying this Hardin Co district schools has been in more than one region, kinda of difficult for a district to own a region when you have been in 2 different regions. However, your point is noted.

5th Region as it is currently constituted came about when Louisville went from one region to two in the mid-1960s. It has pretty much been the same schools in the same districts for 50 years. Prior to that, most of the 5th Region was part of the 6th Region but it was basically the same set up of teams.
