Any HS football shows on radio in WYMT coverage area?

Featured Replies

What radio stations in E Ky are having high school football shows this year, and what nights/times will they be on the air? Haven't heard anything --- always a great way to get fired up for football during the week.

I heard a commercial about "The Sports Guys" moving to Thursdays. I think its from 7pm to 9pm.

I seen advertised yesterday on WYMT that they are going to have a high school football preview of mountain teams August 14th at 7pm.

Ah yes...good show.

Richard "Big Dipper" Blount held one of the greatest sports shows on high school sports in the early 90's. Does anyone else remember that?

What city is WYMT in?

Hazard. It's on cable pretty much everywhere in Eastern Ky.

I know that 105.7 in Manchester has a call-in show during hoops season, but

I don't know about FB season.

...will be a show consisting of 2-3 minute interviews with coaches, players, etc. in the Pikeville HS football program done by Andrew Joyce of East Kentucky Broadcasting.

First one aired this morning (August 14) and will run on weekdays between 7:15 and 7:45am and again around 3:20pm. They're on AM 1240.

EKBroadcasting does a GREAT job (at very little -- if any return financially) to promote LOCAL high school sports; a VERY welcomed change from what schools get in the "bigger markets." ...and, Andrew Joyce works harder and longer hours than a lot of high school football coaches out there!

105.1 WTUK in Harlan has "Time-Out" that runs on Thursdays from 7-9.

103.9 The Bulldog WXKQ in Whitesburg has a Letcher County Central coaches show on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm. It's called the Cougar Coaches Corner. It's broadcast live from the Pine Mountian Grill and we talk to coaches AND players.

"Focus on Sports"

Every Thursday from 4-6pm on 1240 WSFC in Somerset.

Live Call-in and Discussion of High School, College and some Pro Sports, but emphisis is on Local High Schools. They also touch on some of the other sports at the local schools.

I like this show, it's worth listening too.

I hardly think that the Dipper was one of the best hosts of a sports show. Ill never forget how he picked Perry Co. Central to beat Johnson Central at Home during the 2000 season. Needless to say he was way off as JC went on to win that game 72-0. Had a good announcing voice but was way to bias on his areas teams.

I agree JC, I think a good announcer has to atleast be able to see through halfway clear glasses. If the odds aren't in the home teams favor then that has to be taken into account. Nothing wrong with being a homer but sometimes it goes to far.

96.1 FM Barbourville --Wednesdays. Covers Knox, Whitley, Laurel, and Bell area teams.

104.3 FM Williamsburg--Thursdays. Focus is on Whitley and Williamsburg with attention given to Corbin and Lynn Camp.

As Fullcount mentioned, 105.1 does a good job with focus on the four Harlan County teams.
